AC noise

I have noticed that my car is making a tapping/knock sound when my ac compressor comes on. Could it be a tensioner or pulley on my ac compressor or be both the tensioner and pulley? Is there some how i can test to see if it's one or both? If it is one of those or both is there a DYI step by step to replace them?

Thanks!

It's probably the compressor. How loud is it?

You can check if its the tensioner really simply. With the vehicle running, A/C on, and while its making the noise, pop the hood and look at the tensioner. If it was making a knock sound it would almost certainly be knocking around. It's stupid simple to replace if thats the case, remove the old one and put the new one on. The hardware is exposed and easy enough to access.
