Shifter stuck

recently my shifter has been stuck in "P" but the problem is its not tilted to the left nor right, its simply stuck in the middle and i cant take my key out of the ignition... i recently let my friend drive my car and they slammed on the breaks causing a drink to spill. is there a way i can remove the shift border and clean out the inside?

absolutely! it just pops right up. dont let frinds drive your car. did you try pulling up the little bitty cover and inserting a key to release the shifter?

same thing happened to me. i spilled a drink in the shifter and afterwards my shifter got all sticky inside. you just need to force the shifter to move since its just all the sugar from the drink making it sticky. i sprayed a bit of wd-40 in the right places and its been perfect ever since

Haha not necessary, was just checking to see if there was a particular place that needed to be sprayed to get the job done.
