6MT Transmission Flaring!!!

Hey guys I have a 2008 Type S 6MT with 112K miles and about two weeks ago I changed my tranny fluid with Acura Tranny Fluid and for the past two days when I am on 5th or 6th gear and try to speed up on the highway the RPMs spike a little and then settle after a few seconds. It only does it on 5th and 6th gear. My question is why would it start doing this after changing the tranny fluid? I read great things about GM Synchromesh Tranny fluid and wonders this fluid has done to 6MT owners, do you guys think I should change the fluid to that GM Fluid and see if it would cure this flaring. I changed the fluid because I didnt know how long its been since the fluid was last changed by the previous owner. Also car switches in and out of gears smoothly. Any help would be great. Thanks

Not sure what you mean by flaring... However, RPM spiking to me sounds like your clutch is slipping. The reason why I changed to the GM fluid was the gear grind going into 3rd. Once I replaced the clutch and used the GM fluid it's never been better.

My RPM increases were straight the clutch it got worse and was brutal!! Good luck

A bad clutch will start slipping in higher gears first. As said above, that's what it sounds like.

That's just for the clutch. Have a look at the flywheel price too...it's not as friendly. But if your doing the clutch you'll kinda want to get both while your in there.

labor cost cant not be estimated by us.

you need to call around different shops and get a few estimates.

But, it is not cheap. This is at least a 5-hour project, so expect something above $400 in labor, or WAY higher...

Acura quotes it as a 10.5 hour job and here its $109/hour at the stealership, so over a grand. A local Honda shop quoted me at 7-8 hours at $73/hour, so like $500-600.

Now would be the time to replace the rear main seal if it's leaking any oil at all. If the shop has any integrity they should do it for free besides the cost of the seal.

Just connected with a client at work that is a master tech at Acura he wants me to bring the car in after hours to take a look at it and let me know about a side price on the labor and his price on the parts.

While I believe the other posters have found your problem... I did not realize Acura carries or labels manual transmission fluid. Is this something they have always done?

Did you mean to say Honda manual transmission fluid? As far as I know, Acura only carries and labels automatic transmission fluid - which will probably cause damage to manual transmissions. I am not trying to troll or anything, I just have not heard of an Acura labeled MTF before.

Anyways, good luck with the clutch change Godfather.

Ok guys so I had the Acura Tech look at my car and he told that my clutch needs replacement and told me to go buy the clutch and flywheel from LUK since its alot cheaper than getting it from the dealer even with his discount. He told me that the part numbers are CLUTCH = 08-047 Flywheel = DMF105 and that its the same parts I would buy if I got them from Acura. What do u guys think is he correct on that??

Ok just got off the phone with Carolinaclutch.com and got the DMF Flywheel and Clutch for 450 Shipped to my door. Will have it this Friday. After that I'm going this Sunday to drop the car off to have the parts put on.

Again these are the part number's for Type-S 6MT CLUTCH = 08-047 Flywheel = DMF105 and the guy over the phone told me that LUK is what is packaged in the Acura/Honda boxes just alot more.
