4rth Grear Sensor Problem

What might cause this?

I replaced this 4rth Gear sensor in about 3 months ago. Last week the car wouldn't start so had it towed to the local shop. Was told it needed a new starter so had them replace it. When I got the car back after driving it a short distance and the getting up to about 45 the D light started to blink. Brought it home did some investigating to notice that this sensor was bent. After ordering a new one I replaced it today and found the above. So would it be a bad sensor or a result of damage during replacement of starter?

Sounds plausible. It definitely looks to me like it was hit by something to cause it to crack like that. And with the top half disconnected like that, it was probably giving a reading of no pressured so it wouldn't let the car shift into 4th.
