3rd Gear TSB Question

I did some searching but couldn't find a definite answer.

If my car does not fall within the VIN# range of the recall, is it still susceptible to the issues with the rough engagement/popping out of 3rd gear?

Has anyone else outside of the VIN# range experienced those same symptoms or is it something that should be considered fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Replace your existing MTF with GM Syncromesh fluid friction modified.
it completely got rid of my third gear pop out problem.

Yeah, if your car is not in the VIN range then I presume it already has the updated gearset? There must be a reason why it isn't included, and therefore the dealer is not going to want to do anything for you. The GM fluid is supposed to be the magic fix. I have 3 quarts sitting on my night table right now.

Thanks for the responses. Should I still use the GM Syncromesh fluid even if my car has the updated gear set? I'm guessing I should anyway since most 6mt owners swear by it.

At least consider Amsoil's product. However, if you can get the GMSFM fluid (part #12377916), this is the one you want to use. For what it's worth, my '04 TL has just about 82,000 miles on it and it has never had any of the transmission problems reported on these forums. Not one. Granted, I did start using GMSFM fluid at around 15,000 miles, but it was just fine before that.

Yup, I swapped the MTF out of my 09 Accord V6 6MT and it's smooth as silk.

I went ahead and ordered 5 quarts of the GMSFM fluid just to be on the safe side.

2008 TL with M/T – From VIN 19UUA75..8A000001 thru 19UUA75..8A029085

Give the juice a try and then go from there.

give the dealer a try it might be worth it. I did when my car had 80,000 miles and after a long conversation with them they replaced it and its been woorking great ever since still using the acura MT fluid. good luck.
