3rd gear manual transmission fix

As with a lot of people on the board I had been having trouble with engaging 3rd gear in manual transmission (07 type-s). I read about the gm syncromesh fluid fix and was tempted to try it but I was still under warranty so I had the dealer replace the 3rd gear syncros about a month and a half ago. Knock on wood it has been a great solution so far and I haven't had any problems with it yet. When I talked to them they said even if I had been out of warranty there is a good chance they would have replaced it under good faith so I encourage anyone else still having the problem to consider checking that option out.

Good to hear your experience. Many have had the same good experience and some have ended up with the same and/or new MT issues. For me the gm syncromesh fluid was all I needed. As for the warranty I took my chances after reading of the many miles driven with it. Had that failed to work I would have pursued the TSB. I usually try least invasive remedies first. I'm glad your dealer did good work for you and that your car is performing to your expectations.

I DARE ALL RESPONDERS TO THIS THREAD TO STAY ON TOPIC OF THE 3RD GEAR TSB AND/OR THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH THEIR OWN 6MT!!! LETS NOT TURN THIS INTO THE USUAL TIRED MTF ISN'T A REAL FIX, IT DOES/DOESN'T VOID WARRANTY, OR NEVER LET THE DEALER TEAR OPEN YOUR GBX DEBATE. THE HORSE HAS NOT ONLY BEEN BEATEN BUT IS LONG DEAD.

There - Dare on ! No way do I think the board will be able to do it.

My '04 manual TL has 74,000 miles on it and will be six years old this coming July. It has never had any of the tranny problems others have reported on this site. Granted, I have used GMSFM fluid since its first drain and fill, but that was around the 15,000 mile mark.

If I had had any of these problems, my approach would most likely be along the lines of what Adobeman related: taking the least intrusive path first and working from there.

It's funny, I have a friend with an '04 6MT that's got 98k on it, and he hasn't ever changed his tranny fluid out as far as I can remember. He has never had this problem either. I think '04 6MT TL's might be exempt from this?

'04's definitely not exempt from this. My '04 had the issue as well. Before the TSB came out, the dealership could never find anything wrong. I just dealt with it and just under a month ago I drained and filled with the GM fluid and noticed a huge difference.

Thanks Adobeman for not letting this thread turn into yet Another Ridiculous MAD Fold-In.

Nope, I didn't. From everything that I read on here, the 3x3 is needed really only for AT. Had another buddy who is a mod on here also tell me that I didn't need to do the 3x3.

This stuff IS magic in a bottle for MT Hondas. Keeping the best fluids in higher end cars is just a best practice. If you treat your girl real nice she'll be nice to you!!
