Smile 3rd 4th pressure switch help :)

hey guys. i have 04 acura tl and it just hit 86k. car had no transmission problem, until recently it was kinda lagging? from shifting into 3rd gear 4th gear. i never changed atf on my car and im sure the previous owner 2 owners had never done so either. took it to shop and drained and filled honda atf today. i also mentioned acurazine to the mechanic about changing the pressure sensors and asked him to change it for me since i got em. he said he has never heard such thing and its better to leave functional old sensors and refused to change them T.T so... i wondering if theres aziner around my area who already has done this diy and is willing to help me out ofcourse i ll pay some cash and treat lunch or something lol. i live in nyc, queens, little neck

btw i was really hesitant about changing atf since it has high mileage and was never changed. the shifting habit is noticeably better than before, yet could need some more work. (swaping sensor and 2 more drain and fill atf) any suggestion or comments on what i did?

I Hate Cars talks about it here:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ssion+problems

Some recommend you not use the Honda fluid and go with synthetic (Mobil 1/ Redline D4), if the fluid has never been changed you should do a 3X3 to get rid of old fluid and really introduce the new fluid. Others have different ways of doing the 3X3 with high mileage trans.

I have done the sensors and a 4X4 with my car using Redline D4, also changed my tranny filter. It was not hard but I have a lift in my garage

With high mileage it might be wise to do a 1x3 (like you just did).. Drive it for a week or so, then do the 2x3 to finish it out. IIRC, I hate cars told me that.
Also, change the pressure switches after the full 3x3 (I think).

It more than likely won't hurt a thing to do a complete 3x3. But if you have the option (DIY) to do a 1x3 first, I would do that.

The DIY looks so complicated since you're viewing a picture on a screen. Once you get under the car and get to looking you'll be like oh wtf, this is easy. Trust me lol

ok... didnt know it was gonna rain here in nyc... but i managed to swap 4th pressure switch. As for the 3rd pressure switch, the bolt that was holding that black housing was stuck bad so couldnt do that one. i guess i ll ask my mechanic to do it for me when i go there for atf change next week or so -.- after the swap i took my tl for a drive, i felt the difference in 2nd gear to 3rd gear even though it shouldv been 3rd gear to 4th gear. Weird :/

I just read through the other thread cover to cover again, and even though the question was asked many times, no one really answered it:

Should the pressure switches on '07's/'08's be changed as well, or do we not have to worry about it since we have the RL tranny?

^Senors are sensors regardless of year. They may be different for the new models but the basic principle still applies. The whole point of the 3rd and 4th sensors thread was to say that electronic sensors over time will begin to get slower which causes the lag in-between shifts. Just like your computer. Its fast outa the box but over the years it starts to slow down.

I would change the sensors on the newer models well. Put it this way, there is no way it can hurt but you may be saving yourself in the long run.

Is this REALLY true? I am having a little trouble swallowing it. I guess I need to read IHC's post.

definitely read his post.

"What he said causes the issues are the two pressure sensors going bad slowly. To make a long story short, they reduce line pressure and control shift timing in order to provide soft shifts. When one or both start to go, line pressure falls and third starts slipping."

"What he said is that it starts slowing down and of course instead of failing on the high line pressure/hard shift side, it fails on the low line pressure/slip side. The ones that he showed me that had failed looked extremely clean."

He also said that when acura replaces a failed transmission they keep all the sensors that were originally on the car. This causes the next trans to fail over time as well.
