3G TL Knock. Bottom end?

Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EvL...ature=youtu.be

I've taken it to a few different mechanics, and a dealership and have gotten a few different answers.

1. Belt tensioner, serpentine or timing.
2. Crank pulley
3. Rod knock
4. Piston slap
5. Bad fuel injectors
6. Bad camshaft

I have175K miles, and I have done plugs, seafoam in oil tank, vaccuum lines and fuel tank, valve adjustment and a stethoscope. However the mechanic who did the stethoscope told me it was a valve adjustment and the valve adjustment didn't fix it so maybe I need to do it again.

Regardless, what do you guys seem to think it may be? It is synced with revs, but it doesn't necessarily seem like its a timing belt tensioner based on the videos that I've seen online. I see a lot of videos with a similar sound on youtube but nobody ever seems to know what the problem is. I do have a lot of people saying serpentine belt tensioner but from what I've seen online that's a different noise but I'm not that mechanically inclined so I could be wrong.

Not sure how to edit but there is no loss in power, and next time I get my oil changed I'm going to have them cut the oil filter and/or drop the oil pan to see if there is any glitter

Good luck with that. You'd be better served sending an oil sample to BlackStone Labs.

Was the knock/ticking there before you changed the plugs? When did you first notice the noise? Are you the original owner? When was the TB last changed? Who did the service? Who did the valve adjustment? Is this an M/T?

Pull the serpentine/drive belt and see if the noise goes away.

Thanks for your response.

It was ticking before I changed the plugs, I first noticed the noise about 8K miles ago. I am not the original owner. I am the 2nd owner. The TB was changed at 112K miles and it is at 175K miles now. The TB service was done by a dealership. I had a local shop do the valve adjustment. It is an auto 5AT.

Is the easiest way to pull the drive belt to just put pressure on the tensioner, release the belt and turn the engine on?

Yes. Make sure the belt is completely removed or at least totally clear of the crank pulley.

Same Problem

My 05 AT sounds exactly the same as yours. The noise drives me insane and I have gotten many different answers too. Been told its my tensioner, piston slap, ac compressor, loose spark plug, etc. Spark plugs done, ac compressor replaced, serpemtine belt replaced, timing belt done by 1st owner. Ive been told its not a problem at all but i cant agree with that bc of the noise. My mechanic said hes gonna take it to his friend at a machine shop and they should be able to find the problem but we will see. If you happen to find the problem please post and I will do the same.

Sounds like valve lash adjustment is required. Sounds a bit like a diesel, right? My 03 sounded like that until after I adjusted the valve lash.
