Question 3G TL, Button Backlighting Help PLEASE! They all turned OFF!

I searched and couldn't find anything...

was replacing some of the oem bulbs for the switch backlighting, like my seat heater switch and my VSA switch. These were all out.

of course, as luck would have it...everything went wrong from there. I was putting my seat heater bulbs in and something shorted as I inserted the led bulb in with the screwdriver while the lights were on.

I think I saw a small flash under the shifter area and now every one of those little lights turned off. The VSA, door, mirror, all radio buttons, seat heaters. I checked the fuses and they all seem ok. Radio works, interior lighting works otherwise, 12v acc outlets front and rear work. Any ideas, please?

Thank you in advance, I hope I didn't fry anything major!

I think those are 2 different panels....so even if you fried something it would affect the seat heater section...

i think the bulbs are wired in series as supposed to parallel....coz my lights always went out a bunch at a time....in my main console my temp UP/DOWN, Mode, OFF all those buttons went off at the same time....i find it hard to believe that 4 lights went off at the same time....I know my post was barely helpful....sorry buddy...

Free bump ?

I replied to you in my DIY thread but here's another tip:

Did you try disconnecting the battery then reconnecting?

Yes sir...disconnecting the battery did not rectify! Dang it...
It's not 4 lights swoosh...it's ALL the backlit lights other than the window control modules. EVERY OTHER one is out...up and down the radio sides...the VSA area the seat heater...NONE of the backlit ones turn on now.

Also, keep replacing ALL the dead bulbs.

I just remembered, that some bulbs went out while replacing a new one, but somehow I kept going and putting in the new working bulb fixed the bulbs that went out.

I don't know if you stopped replacing, but keep replacing!

It kinda "completes the circuit" if you know what I mean.

Best of luck mate

Guess what MR. GENIUS realized after the fact!??! My footwell lighting was out...and guess what else?!?! My parking lights...so pressed on and found fuse #4 was out under hood. BOOM...repalced and we're back! Thank goodness, thank you for helping out man...

Also, noticed my illumination for my windows would turn off...and when I moved my car into the garage my auto down mirror went crazy...decided would leave car with battery disconnected all night to reset everything. Fingers crossed...

Now just to figure out the bluetooth and cracked dash!

It's taking a shit on me...unpairing mid call...or just turning on and off sporadically. I ordered some capacitors that I read about replacing so hopefully that'll rectify it.

I asked at the dealer about it, but they want 1/2 the price of replacement so 300 to 400 bucks.

Jer - you go it right. Almost ALL cars, for whatever reason, have fuses for the interior lighting located both on the inside AND under the hood. I don't know why cars are designed this way, but it's quite atypical. Glad you figured that out.

Keep us informed on the bluetooth issue.

Yeah man...thought about that too...my old Bosch battery was almost too low to turn the car over last week...and we're talking a beast...1000 Cranking Amps at 32 deg F (probably why it didn't leave me stranded). I also was having a corrosion problem with it because of how hard I had torqued the the nickel plated terminals...I basically lifted the battery posts up a bit and within a week my terminals were welded to the post. I went to pep boys and was only 17 months in so free replacement. Yay...bought a new terminal too and those anticorrosion rings.

Anyone else think I should learn my lesson and disconnect the negative whenever I work on electrical? One lazy step but the potential for so much headache later...you'd think I'd learn.

Anyway...replaced battery and the bluetooth seemed to be doing much better for a few days...then it dropped another call and now it's back to being sporadic. Took it to dealer and they confirmed it wasn't drawing/draining the battery (wanted to confirm both problems battery "the egg"...or bluetooth draw "the chicken).

Turns out it wasn't...so I'm pretty convinced it's the bad capacitor on the bluetooth...in addition, I can tap on the overhead console and sometimes the BT will come on.

Just a thought on the battery....the more the CCA the more prone the battery to HEAT related FAILUREs....

I would go with 600-650 tops...

About the BT, "Fulani has a TL" recently solved some issue with the same thing, draining battery, he figured something out....might wanna PM him

Don't be hatin on my cranking amps, player!
Heat related issues, huh?...that's probably what melted the fuses to my DRL module! I'll keep that in mind. I'd love some input...I actually changed out the capacitor yesterday and on the 5th attempt at soldering it got it to turn on...but on the drive home last night it turned off...weird thing is if I pounded on the overhead compartment it would come back on...happened like 5 times consistently.

The heated mirrror button doesn't illuminate; just its indicator does (when it's on).

It's weird how they don't list the bulb for the mirror switch.

Thanks man...yeah, I guess for such a cheap item I'm better off getting from dealer and skipping shipping fees. Plus, the gives them to me at 15% above cost.
