Front wheel bearing questions

I was wondering if anyone has a D.I.Y. writeup on how to do do front wheel bearings on my 05 TL. I can not find one for the life of me.

Are you looking at just the bearing, or the hub too?

You can ruin the bearing if you don't know how to press it on - be careful if you have never done it before.

Depends on the brand. I used National in my Honda after I ruined one beating a rusted-on rotor off. 150k miles later it was just as good as the Honda ones on the car. What brand are you looking at?

The hub and bearing assembly isn't a unbolt/bolt on item. The knuckle needs to be removed by disconnecting the ABS sensor, upper and lower ball joints as well as the tie rod end, then needs to be pressed out and new bearing pressed in, same with the hub. I'd remove the knuckle and take it to a machine shop with the new bearing. Rock Auto carries Tinken, National and SKF.

I'd also make certain that the bearing needs replacement as they are pretty hardy and not a frequent replacement item.

Well let me tell you what its doing then because it sounds like a wheel bearing... The car is makes a rubbing noise that sounds like its coming from the Pass/Front tire when driving straight and when I take slight left corners it gets louder and changes pitch.

To check if it's your bearings, jack up the car and grab onto your wheels, try to shake them to check if they wobble, if they do then it's the bearings. Ebay is not a brand of bearings, they just give other sellers somewhere to sell. I've had luck with autozone/advance auto parts bearings before. As stated before, it's usually not a problem with bearings.

I'd check the tires, brakes, and even the backing plate before changing the bearing. Remove the tire and check the items listed, if no problems found, install the spare and take it for a ride, noise?

what he is talking about is the bearing. moaning or groaning noise. You can rent a slide hammer from orielly. Taking the whole assy off just for a bearing is not required. They're all the same from car to car when its a non bolt on. you'll need the bearing, hub, and c clip/snap ring

both of my tires were cupped (inside and outside corners) in the front end before I rotated them to the back. It passed state inspection last month in which they shake down the front end. I will put it in the air and check it out again.

seeing as the front end is tight and that may weed out wheel bearings.... my front rotors are pretty warped and i think the pads need to be replaced too. You think that could be what is making this noise.

We're getting there. I suggested after checking, put the spare on a take it for a ride, but so far it looks like it hasn't been tried. Looked at a set of Michelin's yesterday with the second tread form the inside worn irregular, but perfect inside/outside edges, proper PSI, rotated regularly and 7mm remaining. Sure sounded like a bearing but it was the tires.

I havent had a chance to look at the pads however I know the front pads are getting low and the rotors are warped... So I am going to just order up pads and rotors all around and see where I am after that.

update:

Well it took some time to finally get around to looking at the brakes, but I finally did. I ordered up the brake motive crossed drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pad deal that was advertised here on acurazine. Put them on and the noise has gone away.
