3G 3.2TL With a Bad Head?

Hi guys, my car has had a knocking noise for 5 months now, it is a 2005 base TL and it has 170000kms, i don’t know what could be causing it. I have tried a few things such as:

-Valve adjustment
-Timing belt service
-New head gaskets
-Thicker Oil/Oil additives

Upon taking off my heads I found that the rear head looks brand new and the front head looks very worn, there is no metal in the oil though, I suspect poor oil circulation but I don’t know how that could be, I am considering getting a new head or heads for it in a couple months time though. Any insight is gratefully accepted, thank you for your time!

Is there a way you can take a video of this knocking noise? It's difficult to understand. Typically, you don't get knocking noises from the top end, but rather the bottom end.

Do you have any codes?

Does it get quieter when it warms up?

Try to disable one cylinder at a time and see if the noise goes away.

I have no codes, the car pulls as hard as always and it never has any issues but it just has the noise, the noise is gone when I first start the car but once it warms up it comes back. I’ll definitely try disabling a cylinder at a time to locate which head is bad though, thanks for the input!

It sounds like a bottom end noise.

What makes you think it's caused by a head?

I agree with others; sounds like it is time for a new motor. Look for either a J32A3 or a J35A6.

Just the fact that the car only had 150,000kms (less that 100,000 miles) on it when it started and that the oil never has metal particles in it, also that only one of the heads looks really bad and worn

A Type-S motor (aka. J35A8) will NOT bolt into your car; if you want to move up to a J35, look for a J36A6.
