2008 Acura TL, no heat at idle
Hello
I work at a repair shop and have an 08 TL with no heat at idle.
blows cold then when I accelerate it blows hot
I know this can be air in system, water pump, heater core etc
figured id put this here to see if theres any common issues with this car I should check first
thanks

lol thoiboi
I am an advisor and it is my personal vehicle
I know what causes this type of problem just figured id reach out to the community to see if there was a COMMON problem with these cars so I don't have to go crazy diagnosing. ive had it for about 6 months.
are these cars at all known for heater cores?
coolant is full.

have you burped your coolant to remove the air?

check the water valve, the internal made by plastic could broke off over the years. There also a threads about it too.

that valve is ok truonghthe, thanks.
thoiboi, no air in system
coolant full
leaning towards open thermostat because car never gets to middle of guage stays around 1/4
heat is hot when driving but ice when idling
ill get it into the shop next couple of days and report back
I used to have a RSX, same thing happened and it was the water pump but I don't think that's the case here as you usually hear a water pump bearing noise/grind

do you have a OBD scanner to check thermostat and coolant temp?

Took the TL out a few minutes ago to test my new OBD2 adapter, made a few 0-60 drags just to push it a little, my temps was always between 80 and never went over 85 even after those few laps. 85C is 185F

car broken,
decides to install another accessory

but glad it was able to counterintuitively help you diagnose!
thermostat isn't too hard to replace, just make sure you get some Honda coolant to top it off afterwards.

Hi,
I have the same issue with my 08 TL-S. Little to no heat at idle and full of heat while revving or driving.
Here is what I had done to it so far to try and solve the issue:
1. New thermostat twice
2. Coolant flush.
3. New rad cap.
4. Performed head gasket test.
5. Heater control valve check.
6. Performed heater core flush.
Since the heater core flush today it seems to blow hot air at idle when A/C is switched to off position but as soon as I switch A/C to on position with heat set to Hi issue re-appears...little to no heat at idle.
All my other Acuras/Hondas never had this kind of issue with A/C switched on when heat is set to Hi. I always had heat at idle when A/C was switched on.
I'm at a loss here...any help would be much appreciated.

how did you check your heater core valve venide2?

see the cable turing the valve is not how you check it, as I mention before the internal valve made by plastic and could completely broke off from the out side view your valve working perfect but on the inside it does not open or close.

Thanks for the quick replies ppl.
Every steps have been performed by my local Acura dealer so I "assume" they did it right.
I'm starting to think that it could be the nature of the beast, TLs must run cooler than all the other Hondas and Acuras I've owned in the past...
Since the heater core flush, there has been an improvement but it isn't what I feel is real good heat output.

looking into the water valve... you will have to disconnect and make sure the operation still normal. Acura dealer miss alot of thing. My TB tensioner went bad and they said "nothing wrong" well there goes my $145 for nothing. I highly doubt they looking into the water valve.
