I had the EXACT same problem and it was my starter motor. Changed it myself...

HOT weather = battery failure, try a known good battery before replacing that starter..

this doesnt sound at all like a bad fuel pump. Sounds more like a bad battery to me possible the starter. There are only a few reason why a starter will do what your describing. The battery should be able to crank over the car for a few minutes at a time, if you know the battery is good the alternator could be bad. The only other option is bad/loose electrical connections. That would be very surprising for a car that age but depending on the climate you live in it is possible. I would think it is the starter though.

I say it could be the starter because normally you would just get a dead spot on the starter where it will not crank over at all. But if for some reason your stater was defective and wore very quickly or rusted inside the brushes could be making bad contact and cause the exact same symptoms of a bad battery.

A bad battery can still have the 12V to work the lights, etc, but not enough storage amps for the starter to crank the engine, this can also be intermitant, cranks sometimes but not always, make sure the batt. posts & cables are clean also. Bad batterys can cause all kinds of strange problems, can make alternator check bad because the batt. will not accept the charge, etc.

Car not starting, here are things to look for:

1. Is the car making a rapid clicking sound? Yes, that means dead battery.
2. Is the car not making any noises? Yes, check the battery cables and make sure they are tightly connected. If they are, then it could be the starter that has failed.
3. Is the car cranking but not turning on? Check the gauge cluster or a blinking green key. That means the immoblizer system is preventing the car from starting. If you don't see a blinking key, that means a problem with the fuel system, IE the fuel pump.

apparently the people who tried to help me out the first time didnt know what they were doing. I went and bought my own set of jumper cables, hooked them up, waited about 2 minutes and bam. Started like it always does. Will get a new battery in the morning.

Acurazine to the rescue!!!

^^^ This

Recently my girl's car had symptom #1. It would start with a jump and then die out....Took it to Advanced Auto Parts and got a new battery (they have a 25% off going on)...Took the Autocraft Gold battery (3 Year replacement warranty + 84 months prorated) and walked out paying less that $100

If you troubleshoot down to the starter, DO NOT take it to a mechanic. It is an easy fix and you'll save a couple hundred. I called around and the lowest quote I got was $400. That's absolute crazyness. If you indeed need a new starter buy one for about $120, remove the battery and battery tray. Remove the 2 connectors (One just pulls off, the other uses a 10mm or 13mm socket). Remove the 2 bolts that connect the starter to the engine (17mm) and remove the starter. You can do it with the battery tray in, but it's super easy to remove and it gives you more space to move around. Now that the starter is out just reverse the order and WAM BAM THANK YOU MA'AM you have a new starter and saved yourself some cash to pick your lady up something nice. It's a win win!

Just got out of the garage with symptom #1 literally first time this has happened....however even if the battery is dead will it still have the 12V to operate electronics? Radio works, lights work, and it clicks like a mother.

The car's electronics will still work (a few of them) sometimes depending on how much power the battery has left. Voltage= amps x resistance. Amps is really how much power is in the battery. The TL needs about 450-500 amps to start up. If the battery can't deliver that then you get the rapid clicking.

The 2007+ TL uses an sort of "one touch start" feature where you turn the key and let go and it'll crank until the car cranks. If there is a problem with it then it could get hung up and keep on cranking even though the car is started. I'm not familar with how acura did this on the 2007 TL so I can't offer much advice with confidence. I'd suspect the ignition switch if I had to make a guess as to what it was.

08 TL with 74k here with a similar problem.

If the car sits off for 10 minutes with the radio on, the car will refuse to start. When I turn the ignition, all of the driver console lights flicker on and off really fast but nothing else. Sounds like a dead battery, yes?

Except when I let the car sit for 30 minutes and try again, it starts as if nothing had ever happened. This has happened twice so far.

What's up with that?

i have a simialr problem...my car was fine yesterday but when i came out of work i tried to unlock the doors and i heard the motor in the door but it was like it didnt have enough power to push the rod up. then when i opened the door all the gauge lights should go on and they were all just flickering. i tried to start the car and all i got was the gauges flickering. tried to jump it and got it running but as soon as the cables were pulled the car shut off. jumped it again and kept it running this time, so i started my short drive home from work and while i was driving everything shut off for a second and then came back on. once i got home and turned the car off it would not start again and couldnt even get it started while jumping... i put a temp. battery in and everything seems to be working fine now, except my xm button is gone from my touch screen. i have the isimpl installed so i was thinking that i just have to reset that and resend the xm signal and i should be good...

thoughts?

This ended up being a dead battery. Then I got it replaced with a bad battery which had the same issue, and finally the third battery cleared up the issues. It's been a year and I haven't had it happen again.
