2007 TL Radiator Drain Plug Obstructed by something

Trying to drain my radiator, but the plug is obstructed by two metal tubes. The service manual and the guides I have seen online don't show these two metal tubes. I'm using a 2006 service manual though.

Should these be mounted somewhere else, or is this normal on the 2007? Is there a simple trick to getting around them without taking off the bottom plastic cover?

My 07 tl has the same thing. You can drain it from the stop cock or pull the lower radiator hose. The lower radiator hose is the way to go just due to the fact that the trans cooler lines air in the way. To answer your question, yes those tubes are supposed to be there. To get to the stopcock is a pita. That being said,, by pulling the lower hose you'll get more old fluid out. Make share you use the same coolant though. Don't put different coolant in, as we need to concern ourselves with silicates. I filled mine with pentofrost blue.

Thanks guys, I'll go with the lower hose instead. Seems like a pretty shitty design flaw.

Yeah, somewhat agree. Those darn drain bolt strip frequently if your not carful. You can round 1 out in a flash.
