2006 TL electrical issues
2006 TL electrical issues
Recently my '06 TL has experienced a variety of electrical issues and I was wondering if they are somehow interrelated.
- The HomeLink button for my garage door has stopped functioning
- The Hands Free is intermittent in pairing
- The user settings for seat and mirror positions are intermittent
I saw some info on the site regarding fixing the HandsFree system, but wondered if all of these are related to each other in some manner. Any help would be appreciated!

Those are symptoms of a bad battery or loose battery cables-- check the clamps and ground/starter for looseness (usually negative clamp) and corrosion (positive side more so than negative). Tighten as needed.
Then test the battery. Batteries seem to last less in Texas than they do in more moderate weather areas.
When the HFLs go bad, they continue to draw power more than 30 minutes after ignition switch-off and will kill the battery in short order.
Test the power draw after the car has been shut off for an hour to see if it draws more than 100 mA; if not, the HFL is probably fine.
Welcome to AZ.

Update: I cleaned and tightened both battery terminals and checked the starter cables. I still have the intermittent Hands Free Link, no HomeLink button functioning, and occasional loss of user settings.
So am I looking at having to repair the Hands Free Link board, or is it something more?

There is a thread on here for soldering the HFL, you will have to search it, but apparently it fixes some issues. I do know when I had a bad battery, Acura of all, a lot of electrical stuff went crazy in my car. The next day I bought a Die Hard Platinum, and problem solved. What kind of battery do you have, and how long have you had it for?
^here is a link to what he was talking about. You could try the baking method posted a few pages back. It worked for my HFL "booting up" problem. The HFL could be causing battery drain.

I have an Optima yellow top that is about 2.5 years old. Haven't had problems with them in the past (damn expensive battery!) but I will say that cold cranking over the past few weeks has made me nervous. After sitting overnight on a cold (below 30 deg.) night, it was tough starting the next morning (car sits in a garage). The car does mostly around town driving, so charging the battery through normal use is negligible.
Maybe time to try the battery route, and then see if the other problems continue. Just hate buying another damn battery - definitely will go with a less costly one after reading about Acura's eating batteries.
