2005 transmission failure?

I have a 2005 TL auto with 86k and the transmission started slipping today. I think around 2nd or 3rd gear the car just revs like it is in neutral when I gas it.

I always heard our transmissions (honda accord/oddessy too) die around 80-100k. Is this true? Will acura pay for the repair?

so they offered me 75/25 split.. i pay 75%

i dont understand how some people are able to get 50/50 or 25/75 splits out of warranty like me

what do they base the splits on? seems kind of arbitrary

MAnnnn im having the same problem rollaaa. Started today, i have a 2005 acura tl about 86k also. As im driving back home i notice its really rubbing hard to reach 30-40 mph and didnt think nothing of it so i go home and nap. About 2 hours later i go pick up my brother and everything is fine til about 7 minutes in the driving its rubbing hard around 20 to 30 mph. Some forums are saying we may need to change our automatic transmission fluid. I will contact acura tomorrow see what they say and keep you updated. Feel free to give me a call, text or email 562-388-5598 simon (azzyork@yahoo.com) email is link with phone so either way is fine. stay in touch!

You bought the fucking car from the dealer and they want you to pay for the AT.. jeez. You should be talking directly to the service mgr & the regional mgr. Corporate should be eating the cost of a reman tranny and the dealer should be going at least 50% on the labor cost.

Was it an Acura Dealership? What time period since purchase? That was 14,000 miles ago.

Shit.. well you should still talk to the service mgr & regional mgr.. stay professional. At least try to get them to cover the cost of the transmission.. don't approve work until you get an agreement that suits you both. Don't for once think the service shop is losing out.. they make a lot of money & kick the tech who does the work only a small fraction.

Great thread jack azzyork :thief:.. I thought you were the OP for a moment. My original comments were to the OP (rollaaa). In your case, not the OP's, you should be checking for transmission codes & getting it properly checked out before taking further action.

I would call corporate, since it is a known problem. Keep at it, but stay professional. Say things such as this: I cant believe that I bought this car, worst decision in my life. I finally purchased the TL thinking it was a great car. The transmission is a automatic, it should last for a lot more then it has. I would appreciate something here more then 75/25. If they say no still. Corporate knows the power of the people, such as the power of literature and news papers and such. Last thing they need is a person creating a riot because they did not spend 3k to fix a problem that they should have fixed. Parts cost about 500 dollars for a 3k job. 75/25 means your paying some labor and thats it.

Just think: ACURA stealer-ship may charge 4k all said and done so your paying 3k. You can probably get an upgraded transmission parts, OEM or even a transmission from a salavaged TL and have a non ACURA shop install it for less than an 3k.

dude, azzyork go make your own thread. youre confusing everyone in here.

@ OP: did you buy the car from a Acura dealership as a used vehicle? it should come with the CUC warranty (certified used car warranty) for 7years/100,000 miles whichever occurs first.

update: I called corporate at least 3 times that day, and it was pretty much the same story everytime. They said I didn't have the car for that long, there is no records of service history from me, so I don't qualify for more goodwill coverage. Apparently it depends how much service you have done with Acura, and how common the problem is.

According to them, problems with the 3rd gen transmission are not that common. Stories on this board says otherwise, but they wouldn't listen, saying there is no way to verify stories on the internet.

After all the pushing for goodwill coverage, I was able to get about 400 knocked off the price from the service manager after the 25/75 split. Its not much but Ill take what I can get.
