2005 TL starter question

Recently when trying to start my TL I have to turn key several times before starter catches. When I engage key it makes an electronic grinding noise (for lack of better description) and sometimes take 4/5 tries and sometimes it start on first attempt. There is no cranking like a weak battery, when it catches she fires right up. Is this a starter going bad or the solenoid or some other electric issue? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to Acurazine! I have moved your thread to the 3G TL "Problems and Fixes" subforum so you can obtain more model-specific answers.

Again, welcome!

Did you try replacing the battery cable? May sound crazy, but I had a non-stating issue a couple of months back and it turned out the + battery cable was corroded to the point where the starter couldn't get enough juice. At 11 years, it's definitely something you should take a look at.

^well, it could be a whole HOST of things!!

OP should asses and troubleshoot first!
this means testing battery to see if its throwing the correct voltage!
after checking voltage, inspect wiring!

if both those come back good, then we can move on to trouble shoot the starter
