sounds like the exact same issue im having. please keep us updated with any information as i may use it in my quest to cure this horrible issue. GL!
I'm taking my 2005 with 31k in for the 3RD time on tuesday for this problem. Last time they replaced a pulley, kept it over night just so it could get cold and then start it in the morning. Did'nt here it for a couple of days, thennnnnnnn its back! So all that being said i'm at >20% on my oil right now and after talking to the service mang. i'm getting a free oil change as well!!

I had that noise ever since I bought my 05 TL and my dealer said it was normal and part of the ABS. Yet when they gave me loaner cars I never heard it. I dealth with it throughout my 3.5 year lease. Now I have an 07 TLS and don't have that noise. Had I known about this forum prior, I would have raised some hell.

My 04TL just started with this loud clicking noise too. Sort of sound like the valves are clicking louder!! Do you guys also hear a funny noise coming from inside the cabin front passenger side? Hard to describe the noise but it goes away after when the car warms up!! Since some of you had the pulley replaced I wonder if they will say anything since I am running the OEM size UR pulley.

I have a 2005 TL and have experienced exactly what hasbeen described in all the write-ups. The chirping first showed up at 20K and the dealer replaced the timing belt and pulleys - the service manager told me that mine was the 3rd or 4th car to come in with that noise - he had me leave the car over safety concerns in case the timing belt failed. After the parts replacement (belt and all pulleys, and water pump) and diagnosing the problem as a tensioner problem, the noise went away completely, but came back at 45K and 50K. Since then, the dealer has replaced all the parts 4 times, done the TSB shim on the engine mount bracket, and actually reduced the surface area of the effected part of the bracket; I was told that it took painstaking work to get the job done right because of the inclined angle of the pulley sistem. This last time, I have left the car at the dealer for 2 months. I went to get the car and the noise is still there. I have left the car at the dealer until I meet the regional manager. I want to know at what point they will replace the engine. The car remains under warranty and all the work has been done under warranty. The dealer has been responsive and provided me a loaner for 2+ months. If anyone out there has had a solution to this problem or a satisfactory response from Acura, I'd appreciate your feedback.

One more thing to add to my reply: this last time, now the engine has a new noise that sounds like a liquid or vapor leak from a hose. Don't know if it is related, but the engine has been worked on so many times it may be another problem or incomplete work done.

All, see the following for the specific Acura Service Bulletin for this problem - it has been followed on my TL but it did not solve the problem. You can even see the engine assembly and hear the noise if you click on the diagnosis picture in page 1 - it is a video.

Ok after I brought in my TL for service B and the clicking noise is gone now But the inside cabin noise coming from the front vents it is bugging me. Anyone know what this noise is and what is the fix for it??

Hey Guys, I've got an 06 TL with around 57k on it. Started having this exact problem about 2k miles ago.
After much research here on acurazine, I also came to the conclusion it is the tensioner pulley wheel.
At idle, when the AC compressor kicks in, it must put more resistance and tension on the belt, and then you can physically see the pulley wheel vibrate back and forth quickly as it makes that chirping noise.
So I'm wondering - can this be a simple DIY repair? Is there really a need to replace water pumps, oil pumps, timing belts, etc for just a bad pulley wheel?
Thanks!

Someone mentioned in this thread that they had the service bulletin (water pump shim) done and still heard chirping. Or more of a rattle
Now. They tell me it's the second heat shield and that it's $400 to fix. I have the warranty for 5k more miles. Anyone else has the shim thing fixed and then was told it's the heat shield. Btw I asked the dealer to replace re tensioner since they replaced everything else at that time for an additional $150 on top of the bulletin repair but they "forgot".

So I am gonna post this to hopefully help others:
I have a 2005 ssm AT with NAVI, i too had the chirping noise from the passenger front. It was noticable when the fans kicked on and when you static rev the engine to 1500. You could also hear from a stop when in drive- thrus and between buildings.
Anyway I was able to strong arm Acura to do a goodwill warrenty repair since the warrenty was expired when i bought the car(59000 miles). I live in Montana and just got back from Spokane, WA today because they replaced the timing belt, did the shim kit and ground the relief in the mount via the TSB.
Well i get back tonight and the noise is still there. It is quieter but still there. I am starting to think it is the heat shield. It makes sense it would be quieter today since it was hot from a 400 mile drive.
It was AWESOME acura covered this for me. Outstanding customer service! I just wish the noise would go away, it makes the car sound cheap.

Update on the chirping issue: i went ahead and removed my heatshield WITHOUT having to drop the exhaust like the TSB says too. Just took a little effort with a small pry bar to get the mount lugs to clear misc engine hardware. TRUST me i didnt mangle the heatshield, just a little articulation and it can come out.
Anyway, the heat shield was the damn chirping noise that we all hear from 1500-2500 rpm. I cant tell you how nice it is that dreaded noise is gone.
Well at least i got a free new timing belt and idler pulley out of the deal/ troubleshooting lol. Thanks Acura
BTW: all you need for tools is a 1/4" ratchet with a shallow 12mm socket for the top passenger outboard bolt and a ratcheting close end wrench that preferably swivels back and forth.
Total time was about 20 mins from start to stop.

I just got home from the dealer, all the work was done and the car sounds great!
I'll try to copy whats on my invoice (it was all N/C and under warranty)
Install S/O parts due to noise in engine compartment
Cause: B07
113100 Replace water pump and gasket
1 19200-RDM-A02 Pump comp, water
110199 Replaced timing belt, tensioner and idler pulley
1 14400-RCA-A01 Belt, timing 197YU
1 14550-RCA-A01 Timing belt idler
1 14510-RCA-A01 Adj comp, timing B
1 14530-P13-000 Collar auto adj.
1 14520-RCA-A01 Tensioner comp. T/
looks like it says 2.8 hours for the water pump and 2.5h for all the timing belt stuff
I have a 2006 TL 6spd if any of you are wondering. 28,000KM's

If you guys are still having this issue. I had the same chirping noise after I got my timing belt and water pump done. I took it back and they found a service bulletin for grinding down a part of the engine block. it was the waterpump chirping against the engine block

It's the heatshield that goes around the passenger axle. It needs to be removed and reinstalled with new washers/grommets.
Trust me, this is the fix. It worked for me.

Hi every one here, i was the passionate user of Honda cars, back there in south asia, Honda Accord(same shaped but 3.0 mugen japan) never had such expreiences people sharing of a noise trusting that i bought one acura TL here V6
problems i am having, mind yew its the used car i bough with approx 160k milleage problems are below
in cold start engine
1- Engine throws Noise as if its the main began has gone dead but when the temperature rises to warm sounds gone
2- Similarly on cold engine when the car is standing on "P" or "N" strange noise comes underneath the front passenger seats that can only be felt or heared from in side not that louder from outside,
3- When i gear up to Drive having foot on the brakes and slowly start releasing there is strange noise that comes from the right side like pum pum pum when i push or release brakes in straight direction
being satisfied user of honda car, reading this thread, i have gone so much disappointed with acura's first experience , as if its this problem is manufacturing
and there is no rebate or precised fixing any person founded here i am feelign scary to loss my saving because of blunt trust on honda
Can anyone help me about it???

This was my original post I made. Nobody replied to this post.
If this is your problem...here is the fix. Had it done tonight (10/16/2007) at my Acura dealer under warranty.
14550-RCA-A01......TIMING BELT IDLER
14510-RCA-A01...... ADJUSTER
19200-RDM-A02..... WATER PUMP
38920-RCA-A03...... BELT COMPRESSOR
14400-RCA-A01...... TIMING BELT
0L999-9011A...........ENGINE COOLANT TYPE-2
14520-RCA-A01.......TENSIONER
53701-SDA-A01.......TANK
The timing belt tensioner and idler pulleys were damaged on my engine. I got to see them after they pulled the parts. The seal was ruptured on the hydraulic tensioner. The idler pulley was scored and discolored and the bearing wasn't spinning freely.
The rest of the parts were replaced because they were already inside the front of the engine. I believe the water pump always gets replaced when they do the timing belt.
BTW the dealer is NOT surprised and says this is very common on the 3.2L engines.
So far the noise is gone.

Thanks again. BTW this is my first timing chain replacement.

I've retold the story over and over again where a Honda mechanic I used to use in Boston said that the TBs are over engineered and had only seen two broken belts in his 25+ years as a mechanic. He also told me a story of a Pilot that came into the shop with over 300K on it where the TB had never been replaced.
Congrats to you as this is quite a milestone.
