2004 TL not shifting into 5 gear
Hi,
I just bought a 04 TL with 52 miles and have some questions. While the car is shifting without any jerks, the trans would not shift to 5 gear under 45-50 mph. if I am driving the car around 45-50 the rpm will go to 3000 and the trans will then shift to 5th gear. Is this normal with Acura TLs? Previously I had a G35 and I didnt feel the lag in the transmission shifting to 5th gear.

52 miles? The grade logic control is a little wierd, it will downshift into 3 rd when the speed slows to about 40-45 mph. As far as the 5th thing, Acura put a pretty high 5 gear in the tranny. Ive noticed the same thing in my car. I sometimes rather the car just stay in fourth. The shifting computer needs to be programmed better. Im sure the transmission is tuned for the mighty "HWY MPG ratings" that helps sell the car.

Try setting your ECU. The transmission learns from how you drive, and shifts accordingly. My car used to shift very late as well(around 3k rpm like you), before I reset the ECU and drive a bit faster.
