'08 Type S odd starting issue-Please help
For about 6 months my Type S has been starting weird, and I need a bit of help. It only happens during a cool down period. Like if running into a store, or going to eat and starting my car after. If my car is cold, it starts perfectly. When hot, it starts perfectly. After driving to a fully operational temperature and shutting it off (within about 30 minutes to an hour and a half), the vehicle seems to start at about 200 RPM. It has always started, but I am anal about my TL, and this is embarrassing. I have embedded a video. I have shown multiple technicians, and asked several other forums with no help. Video below, any thought or insight is helpful! Thank you!

So the car idling fine after it starts? It just starts at 200 RPM and then returns to normal idling RPM? Hard to tell exactly from the video because the car isn't on very long.
Does the car have any issues where it doesn't start at all? Does it start after one crank from the starter every time?
I honestly don't know the answer, but it may be one of those issues where until something fails, you may not have an answer.
I'd try and take a look at your throttle body and see if it's a little dirty, maybe? Potentially this is some sort of issue with a sensor that controls the air/fuel ratio not starting immediately when the engine fires up?
Potentially there is low voltage at the fuel pump or the pump is dying and not pumping enough fuel when the car is first starting?
Just taking some guesses. Will be curious to see if you can find a solution.

yeah, i watched the video and nothing seems wrong to me? it started up!!!! lol
if it's idling funny, you'll need to check for vacuum leaks. i dont think you'll need to clean out the throttle body, as debris will not get stuck in a 68mm diameter opening. lol that's as big as your fist.
but, what i would check out is the EGR valve. chunks of carbon debris likes to get stuck into the EGR valve and make idle rpm funny..cuz the opening to the EGR valve is like smaller than a penny. debris can easily lodge itself

I was thinking maybe the throttle body could be sticking at start-up potentially due to build up on it. Not exactly sure if that's possible with an electronic throttle body tho.

No sure I see anything wrong in the video

I definitely see something is up. I feel like your starter is about to take a shit. The starter is not retracting fast enough. Change your starter. I can hear the starter still spinning.

Sorry, for the lack of response guys. I have been in the process of buying my first house so it's been crazy. However! I did find the issue. Upon inspection, I noticed 3 of my 6 fuel injectors were leaking. Using my first garage night at my new place; I replaced them as well as intake manifold gaskets, and it's been running (and starting) perfect every time! Took me about 1 hour and 40 minutes to do the whole job start to finish. I'm not too mechanically inclined, so this seemed like a big job, but really wasn't bad at all. I appreciate the help guys!

I found them leaking by taking off the intake manifold, taking the fuel rail off along with the injectors, and cycling my key 5-8 times. We could see a few injectors leaking as well as a couple worn /torn boots. As far as I know there is no "easy" way to test them. My TL also has 198k on it so it was definitely time for injectors. I did expect injectors initially with the starting issues, but my hard tell sign was that my starting issue was getting worse, and my fuel economy was dropping drastically. I was getting 25-26 MPG consistently which for summer, is pretty low. I normally get a minimum of 27-29.

I have a similar issue. 1 out of 50 times the car would start at 200rpm, but withing 1-2 seconds it revs up automatically and idles at 600rpm.
No clue what that is... maybe starter or fuel pump is weak. I wont try to fix that unless it become very frequent
