08 type S 5at new issues trans/charging
Over the weekend I put a good 550 miles on my 08 5at with 205k. On that trip I had no issues at all, go to start the car after a short trip and when I put it in gear it barely wants to move forward at all. Seems like it's slipping and accelerating very slowly until it decides to shift then it drives as normal. Let it cool off over nite, start it up and it drives normally most of the day then I park and stop the car for 10minutes. Get back in and get a p0562 charging system issues message and the car would not go into reverse and would only go forward slowly until higher rpm then it would shift and drive normally for a short time. After that the battery light came on and I made it home to test the voltage and the battery was at 11v both off and idling, read the codes and I have a pending p0766 also This to me indicates a bad alternator and I am wondering if the electrical system being at below 12+ volts would cause my transmission issues and throw that code also. Some of the legendary sage wisdom I've heard of from you guys would be greatly appreciated, I'm going to search for a type S alternator part number and get one ordered but I'm kinda nervous about the p0766 tbh.

Update, I put a new brush holder and voltage regulator on it just now and it shifts like a dream and has 13 volts going to the battery at idle. Only problem is now I have an alternator whine and the battery light is still on the dash. I have a bearing set for this alternator so I'm planning on working those bearings in on sunday, does anyone have a clue why the battery light would be on even though I'm putting 13v to the battery? Oh and I could not find where these little brushes go so they went unreplaced. Google and YouTube were of no help with these little guys.

You should be putting out 14.2V+ to the battery. How about you just change out the whole alternator instead of just the brush and the voltage regulator? Changing out the bearing on the inner side of the alternator is a pain in the a$$, the one on the casing is easy. You can even get a used low mileage OEM alternator from LKQ online for just $50 then you are done.
