'08 TL-S Auto hesitation at 5,500 rpm
Anyone else have this issue? I don't really floor my car all that much but there are times I'll rip it from second into third on a long on ramp home that merges with the highway. I'll use the paddle shifters (haven't really floored it in normal drive like this) to shift from second into third. Everything pulls great until it gets to 5500rpm. It's a very noticeable hesitation and even seems like it drops revs while still floored and then continues on its way. I guess I could probably try to get it on video after work today but I'm sure the trolls will comment about speeding. Anyway every other gear has no issue at all.
I haven't changed the fluid since I purchased it almost a year ago and the car now has 78k on it. I'm going to flush it and see what happens but I was curious if this is a common issue with the type s or not. I would also wonder if there is a pressure switch issue but it's already in gear when the issue happens. I appreciate any help. I can live with it since I don't really beat on it to begin with but I'm curious as to what the issue could be.

Sounds more like the vtec, pretty sure it kicks in around that RPM. Its driven off your oil pressure. Have you checked your oil level lately? There is a Bunny hopping around here that is very knowledgeable with this subject.

It's not v-tech switching over. It will hit 5500rpms and literally bog back maybe to 5300 or 5400rpm's then keep going. It's very weird. Keep in mind I'm a mechanic but for Subaru's. Just was hoping there was some other people with the fix.

I have a similar issue. Only happens in 3rd gear in SS mode. Strange thing is if i slap it back to "D" the problem goes away and revs normally throughout the entire range. I've tried to replicate the problem when not in SS mode, but it's non-existent.

During ss mode is your gear indicator blinking? If yes then its your at range switches is on the way out.

So I was slightly off its maybe around 5700 rpms. If that link doesn't work let me know.

I've done the pressure switches and 3x3 since ownership of my car and this hasn't worked for me. The drain and refill did however alleviate the low rpm bucking that was occurring when upshifting to 3rd.
I just assume is something with the ecu and without hondata (or similar) there's no way to find out exactly what's happening.

Lets try the basic first like reset the ecu so your drive by wire go back to learn mode again.

Just thought I'd share this as it may have been part of my problem. Over the weekend, I completed the 105k service and was surprised when I pulled the plug from the #1 cylinder. I've ripped on it through all the gears since completing the service and haven't had the issue yet. I'm surprised a loose plug didn't throw a cel or any noticeable issues. Just glad I caught this before it did any significant damage....

Unhooked my battery and cleaned my throttle body. No changes. Also found out it definitely doesn't do it in auto mode. My plugs are new within the last 4 months. I gotta get some things from the Honda dealer so I'll have the parts guy get me some trans fluid so I can do a flush. If that doesn't improve anything guess I'll just live with it.
With auto trans Subaru's we're able to do a relearn with our computers. Anyone know if Acura has the same kind of thing?

"I got this from another forum and it works for a lot of people including me.
The Throttle is "Drive By Wire" and adapts to your particular driving
style. Do a TBA Throttle body adaptation.
1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter
turns over.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back
to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas
pedal.
5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment.
6. Drive the car as you always do.
Depending on your driving style, this may or may not be a big factor. I do a lot of city driving so
I noticed a big change after erasing my history. It is not hard to do this, just follow the instructions -
Key on, pedal down, 5 sec, key off pedal up, wait 2
minutes.
Keep the key in for the entire thing.
Seems to work on mine."
