'08 TL. Fuel Tank seems small
The facts:
3rd Gen '08 TL
Mich Pilot Sport A/S 3 tires
93k miles
TL has 17.1 Gallon tank
A/C on around 68deg
Last filled up tank when indicator was at about 1/8th of a tank left
Fill was 12.1 Gallons, about $30 here in central VA
I would figure that filling the tank 7/8s should be closer to 15 gallons for the fill...
I'm getting 15mpg in very short (1-2 mile) commutes to work and around town and this is my main driving. There are hills, but I have to use the manual to shift sooner into hire gears to achieve that 15mpg. In normal automatic I'm getting 13mpg. Even at this rate, my range displays even worse showing ">187 mi"
Thoughts? I have my own but want to hear yours. Thanks!

you're getting pretty shit-tastic mileage... stop with the vtak
and tune up some stuff.. that's horrendous, even my Type S gets better than that.

yeah the needle isn't the most accurate so i wouldn't put too much weight into it. Plus, the pump at the gas station doesn't always necessarily fill up to the 'max' nor to the same point either.. it's all a guesstimationizing really.. voodoo black magic. Don't think too much into it and just enjoy the ride.

Or move farther from work so you can have a longer commute and thus, better gas mileage

I noticed on my first tank fill that after the pump shuts off the first time I still can get 2.5 to 3 more gallons in the tank. For some reason the gas pump shuts off way too early on this car. I drive 5K miles a month so it's worth the extra three to five minutes to get the tank topped off. That's 80-100 extra miles per tank. I've looked for a fix to this problem but still haven't found one. It gets really annoying while filling the tank but I do it for the extra range.

^^^^keep doing it and eventually you will damage the evap system, the reason the gas pump shut off early because gasoline can cause vapor and expand as temperature varies. You might get away with it with the early 90s car but every modern car is fully computerize monitor.

Just make the gasoline tank bigger. Drill a hole into the existing tank, put a hose into it, use some caulk to seal it. For the other end of the hose, drill a hole into the trunk, push hose in, caulk again. Now your entire trunk will act as a gigantic reserve tank. I see no possibility of anything going wrong with this.
