'08 MY Type-S Vibration

This might be an odd and potentially anal question. I owned an '05 TL and traded it in for an '08 Type-S. I know that the engine is better and the suspension is tighter. But here is my situation and question:

I noticed that there is a slight vibration on the floor panel and through the accelerator pedal during normal driving. It seems like it doesn't depend on the speed or road type but seems to be generated from engine vibration and can be felt in the floor and pedal. I first thought it was because the suspension was stiffer which means that more of the road can be felt, but even on perfectly smooth roads, this vibration can be felt. Even can be felt during slight acceleration.

I never felt anything like it in my '05. That's why I noticed the difference. Was wondering if there is an explanation for this, anyone else with a Type-S has felt this, or can it be a defect somewhere like engine mount problems? Or is it normal and I should just ignore it?

I know it's anal, but I love my car and notice everything about it

Thanks for any inputs.

Hey, I noticed similar feel in the gas pedal in my 08 TLS. I believe it's normal, considering how much torque is pumping thru the front...but I could be wrong.

Interesting threads, anyone else with a similar concern?

Never noticed it - '07 TL-S, 5AT.

Used to happen regularly in Chevy I had quite some time back. Never knew why.

I don't have any vibration problems with mine. I think someone on this site had the same problem and it ended up being the wheels. Something about a wheel defect and they had the the front wheels replaced.

its not a "problem"

i noticed alot more vibration felt throughout the car when i first upgraded from 06 to 08. you'll get used to it soon. i think its from the bigger engine, slightly higher flowing cats and exhaust and stronger more aggressive tranny

Ok, on the way to work today I did a little testing, I do feel slight vibration on the gas pedal when accelerating....it is almost exactly same feeling as when the radio is on loud and bass is pumping, you feel the resonance in the pedal.

So I don't know, it seems normal. I can't say I have bad wheels as they are new, and I don't feel anything in my steering wheel or when I brake.

Anyone else with TLS feels this 'resonance' when accelerating?

I have an 07 Type-S and I don't notice anything like that.

My suggestion to you would be, if you feel this is a problem or something "just isn't right", take it to the dealership.

Any issue they find should be covered under your factory warranty.

This is definitely not a problem. Just curious who else feels this, you must really pay attention to notice it.

Tclavell, when you radio is pumping you don't feel the resonance in your doors? gas pedal?

Anubus did you find out what the problem is?

Sometimes I feel strong vibration in the gas the pedal when accelerating...

The car has 2K miles on it, so what can be wrong with it? arggg...maybe it's all in my head

bump!, anyone else feels the above?

I haven't felt any vibration because I can't feel my feet; why is it so cold down there no matter how high I put the heat on?

Maybe I just haven't really paid that close attention to any rattling or vibrations. Yes, when the radio is LOUD, i feel it in the doors, but that is normal.

I don't know, maybe its because I'm always wearing shoes and I can feel it more.

But it feels like when I'm pressing on the gas there is like a friction pushing it back, and I get the same vibration as when the bass is pumping...I basically feel the rpms going up thru the pedal... I don't think this is normal, I never experienced this in any other car.

Korrupted, I guess me and you have to meet up, so you can drive my car, and I can drive your car, just to see if I do in fact have a problem.

I have a vibration, but I believe its from my wheels because I can feel a little in my steering wheel and I didnt feel this when I first bought the car. I drove 20k and I think I might need to rebalance and rotate my tires as well as maybe getting a wheel alignment.

If you can feel it in the steering wheel I would have said that it was an out of balance wheel but as it seems that everyone has it I would say that it is driveline/motor related. I think that it is very interesting that you can feel it in the floor and the gas pedal. I doubt that everyone who has an 07-08 has wheels that are out of balance or bent. Bizarre.

well I didnt feel this with my stocks, and I didnt feel it with the aftermarket wheels till I did a burnout (if you guys seen my video)

It may be flat spotting, but I havent driven enough miles for it to go away, I am going to make a trip to the dealer possibly tomorrow morning, they don't have any loaners so they will stick me with a rental

I only feel it when I'm steady at a low rpm. Like when I'm doing 60 on 6th gear. when I downshift the car feels a lot smoother but I put up with the vibration because I heard that driving in top gear gives you better fuel mileage.

I haven't felt this in my 07 type-s ... def. take it to the dealer if you feel something weird is going on down there ... why take a chance on a potential warrenty issue? At least you get peace of mind afterwards ....

toke = took? suspension = suspension? Spell check can be your friend. Take good care of that TL-S I saw that burnout video... you have a great first car.

I'm pretty sure what is happening to me is not a big problem. I only experience it when I climb to speed, let's say from 30 to 60, I climb gradually, I don't punch it, so I do feel the resonance in the gas pedal....Not always though.....If I don't pay attention I will not notice it at all, but If I do I will def. notice it. Brand new car, what can be wrong with it?

I know for a fact (as I already dived in the engine bay a few times at the shop) that is not the engine or the tranny...My steering wheel does not shake what so ever, I can't let go the car will continue going straight...I do feel slight vibration in the steering wheel when at the red light, holding the brake...but that's normal.

Suspension too tight? the buzz is bouncing to the chassis which hits the gas pedal? Something wrong with my stock wheels? but if this was the case I would of had feedback from the steering wheel.

But it does feel like I'm going thru very very small ridges on the road...it's not a pulsating feeling, just a vibrating buzz like you would have from a very weak cell phone.

My friends, just got back from a test drive with brand new type s wheels and the crappy michelins, and guess what, its the tires, my guess is the crappy michelins bite again, dudes I heard nothing but exhaust drone, so take it to your dealer and get new tires, claim it as a manufacturer defect

That should do the trick
Current milleage 75--

Possible causes of weird vibration
A) blown sidewall belt
B) damaged tpms sensor
C) crappy tires
D) led foot

I'll wait for the spring, and I will change rims/tires altogether.

Going to the dealer, for what, to get more of the crappy Michelins? its ok lol

I have not found out the issue. But I think what you are experiencing is the exact same thing. I am not positive it's the wheels or tires. It has to be resonance from the engine somehow. I don't think it will be correctable. I have not taken to the dealer for this issue. They will probably think I am crazy and a bit anal. But I am glad that it's not only me that experience this. So I think it's inherant in the 08 Type-S design. IMHO.

Well, I'm starting to think that maybe the tires should take the blame... I guess I'll know when I'll install new rims/tires....I have A LOT of road noise.

Is this just a Type S issue or has anyone driving a standard TL felt this vibration?

Could it be as simple as the way the gas pedal is set up with the sport pedals and not as much padding and a larger area?

Let us know if new tires fix the problem. But putting down 1K to try and fix this problem is alot to spend

If it were the tires, then wouldn't you think you would feel the vibration all the time and at all speeds? Mine is intermittant and comes and goes on every road type. So IMO it can't be the tires. It has to be vibration from the engine translating to the pedal and floor.

Anubus12, on the weekend I'll test your theory, I'll be driving all over...maybe it is the road? all a combo of tires/suspension? or maybe it just the pedals?!? Loose a bit?

cold tires will cause vibration, I even notice this on the same spots on same street surfaces , but once the tires warm up it goe's away!

I just tested it out, it's definitely the tires at low speed 20-30mph.

Add one more to the list. 08 Base TL w/Navi. I feel the vibration on the floor, near the pedal and at the bottom of the driver's seat. Same vibration is felt with radio on higher than normal volume. Not sure as of now whether I should take it to the dealer or wait...

08 TL-S here and the only vibration I get is when the wipers are on. Normal driving, the pedals seem normal.

Thanks, that would be great. I truly hope it's the tires/road theory. Anything dealing with the engine worries the heck out of me.
