07 TL Type S Power Steering rebuild question
07 TL Type S Power Steering rebuild question
Hi All,
Haven't been on in a while, and I know there are tons of threads on power steering noise, but my question is regarding rebuilding the type s steering pump. Are the internal O-rings/ seals the same between the type s steering pump and the base steering pump? I have the while and power steering noise, but it is all the time, not just at start up and doesn't go away when the engine is warm, so I think I need to rebuild. I would much rather do this myself versus paying $200 plus for a rebuilt unit. I saw the do it yourself thread on the site, but wasn't sure if all the part numbers are the same for the rings and seals since the Type S and base power steering pumps are different. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!

I don't believe there's any differences with the seals, but I'll defer to another member to verify. I just rebuilt most of mine about 2 months ago on my 07 NBP and it wasn't that difficult. Follow the DIY as it's incredibly helpful. The service manual a few posts down suggests draining fluid and removing the engine mount, no need to do so.
If you have no leaks, sounds like it might be air getting sucked in from the inlet ring by the PS hose.
Also, a heads up: the OEM cover seal (91349-P2A-003) is stupidly expensive now, and the most common source of leaks, so I purchased instead. Worked perfectly! I did not replace the seal on the bearing shaft side (91249-PNC-003) or the O-ring behind the allen head bolt (91347-PAA-A01) as they weren't leaking and I didn't have a vise to mount the pump into and break them loose. I also would recommend getting a serpentine belt tool if you're doing this by yourself, don't need to fight the accessory belt tensioner as much.
Oh and I'm sure you've read this but it can't be stressed enough: make sure you don't get ANY PS fluid on belts or painted surfaces.
Edit: Wow HTML blew up the links to acuraoemparts, removed them.
