Hi there,
Just joined the community. Im having some issues with my TL and I've tried to fix a little but cannot find whats wrong.

Issue: When I start my car my automatic is stuck in Park, I have to upon the little cover next to the shifter and press the manual release to unlock every time I shift out of park or shift from drive to neutral (gets stuck in neutral) to go to park.

Some Checks Ive done from message boards Ive read:
- Tail lights work as required.
- I don't hear any light "clicking" when I start the car or when i press down on the brake.
- Sometimes in really warm, I don't need to press the manual release.
- I did spill a soda (although I dont think alot) prior to this issue happening.

What Ive done-
I've tried to open the console to get to my shifter and put some distilled water on it. It helped for a few days but the problem came back. By helping it worked most of the times but after a few days it stopped working and I needed to go back to pressing the manual release.

Can you guys tell me what I can do right now. Am I stuck with just taking it to a dealership and getting it checked there?

Check your #32 accessory fuse and the other 7.5 fuses below it. One of them controls your shifter lock. I've blown mine before and had the same issue you're having.

 

Just checked fuse 32 and the 7.5 below it, seems to be fine. Any other possible causes?

 

Can anyone me with this issue. Im still experiencing it. Do I just need to take it into a dealership?

 

Check fuse #13 by the way are you SURE you're brake lights are working? Id check that over if i was you because the brake lights not working cause the security mechanism on the shifter to engange so u cant shift out of park without manually unlocking it.
