Not to be rude but the third gear issue has been discussed ad nauseam. Just search "third gear tsb". Welcome to the forums and get that car in to your dealer with the TSB. Also, have them look at the clutch assembly for possible replacment since they will have the majority of the work done via the TSB. Good luck and welcome to the forums.

There is a TSB out on this problem. However, many of the people on this site who have experienced this (I never have in my '04), have first drained and filled their trannies with General Motors Synchromesh Friction Modified fluid (part 12377916 as I recall). In most cases, this seems to solve the problem. If it is still occurring after this, take your car in for the TSB.

My TL just came back from the dealer to have the 3rd gear set replaced per the TSB... Man, what a freakin difference!

Now every gear change makes a solid but muted "Thunk" as the shifter is moved--almost as though something is pulling it into every gear. It almost feels better than my near-perfect '06 TSX. It's fantastic!

Not only that, but a few other things were fixed as well including a loud chirping sound from the drive belt and a groaning power steering pump.

My drive home from the dealer was so pleasant that I didn't even get upset when I heard the engine pinging itself to death whilst merging on the freeway

Is this covered even if you do not have a warranty on your car anymore?

honda should good-will it because its a know issue, you might have to pay a certain cost though like 10% or something. Also I advise you that you change the clutch and other things if you are at high mileage as the tranny will be ripped apart, so you will save some $$$ in labor

Thanks, i've only got 53k miles on an '05. I bought it after a doctor traded it in after the warranty was up at 50k miles. I've done clutch work on my old GSR so unless they are throwing in an aftermarket one for a decent price I can do that work on my own.

I am jealous. My car has the same problem but I have to wait for a bit colder weather, so it will be easier for me to reproduce the problem as I do not want to waste hours at the dealership. I have already spoken with my service advisor, but he said that unless they see/hear/reproduce the problem, they can’t do the TSB unfortunately.

Thats BS....The 3rd gear problem is a known issue and the dealer should fix it for you instead of putting you thru the inconvinience of waiting for the problem to duplicate for them in order for them to fix it. Maybe you can try a different dealership?
