Hi, how do you know the valves "burnt out" because you didn't get them adjusted? Is that what the dealer told you? How does this happen? Lastly, what are symptoms of "burnt out" valves? thanks

The exhaust valves are the most common to go, imo, and is due to the valve not sitting properly when the burn happens in the cylinder. The hot gas escapes little by little and fries above the seal...

I went a very long time without adjusted valves. The symptoms of a burnt valve is very low compression on the cylinder, especially at idle. A simple compression test can be performed to see if the compression is normal.

I got the work done by my buddy, who wouldn't lie . I would avoid this at all costs, as it was expensive to fix...

Are you certain about that, whats your reasoning,,, did you have the same problem.

I have been having the same issue as stated above i have changed plugs twice and swapped coil pack around and still throwing misfires across the board,,,, planning on adjusting valves within the next few weeks

Do you have an MT? If so, your valves might be bent.

On some starts, engine seems to crank over a little more before firing. Other than that, engine runs fine and gas mileage has not changed (same as before, typical for 6MT).

Vehicle has over almost 98K miles now. If no codes, I plan at 100K miles to do valve lash adjustment, EGR valve & passage cleaning and new spark plugs. Later at 105K miles I'll do the timing belt package and accessory drive belt.
So almost three years later, I'm still having the same issue. I've done nothing since 2011 but buy a code reader and clear the codes when the CEL comes on. The most consistent code I've seen is P0420, which I'm told is the catalytic converter. The only constant I've noticed is that every once in a while the car seems crank longer than necessary to start. Other than that, the car runs fine and does not idle roughly. I'm at 194K miles.

I'm not sure whether to go crazy knowing 100k miles were driven with misfires or to celebrate the indestructibility of a Honda engine. There is a troubleshooting procedure for everything, and it sounds like none of the mechanics you visited performed any actual troubleshooting. Glad your car is still on the road!
