05 auto shuddering

got a 05 tl the summer before last and it now has about 38,000 miles on it. its never had a single problem with it until now. i'll be driving around and all of a sudden the car begins to shudder, not major car shaking but definitly enough to worry me. when it happens i let off the gas and press back on it when it stops. it happens for about 3 seconds every time. what do you guys think?

Um ... I'll say try cleaning the fuel injectors first.

You can try the Valvoline (which the Acura dealer by me uses) or look up Seafoam. Put it in your gast tank when it's 1/4 away from being empty.

Can anyone post some pics of the pcv location to inject the seafoam. This will help me along with many other ppl who have no idea where to inject the seafoam.

you can use the big vacuum line that goes to the brake booster or remove a few cover panels on gen3 cars to get to the maniflod vac line where it connects at a fitting--- if same as gen2
Seafoam- at parts stores- use 1 pint can 7 bucks to 1/4 tank of gas 2 oz per gal for max effect on fuel injectors.
1 can for intake vac line cleans valves and pistons

I would test the transmission too, cruising light throttle, around 35, and stomp it, does it hook up or slip and surge looking for friction as it goes down thru 3rd and into 2nd to accellerate?

I think its near the windshield, near the center. It has a silver dot on it. Don't hold me to it though.

I would not waste my time with the cleaner, but scan it.
Maybe your idle speed control valve is sticking.

When it happens, look at the tach, is it reading low?

It could be a lot of things, throttle out of adjustment, vacuum leak, throttle position sensor, or the ISCV.

I am having the same problem. Going uphill around 39mph, shifting from 3rd to 4th gear. Does not do it all the time, the shudder will also occur randomly during everyday/every other day driving. It is hard to duplicate but tends to do it more times when accelerating slowly.

The local Acura dealership looked at it around 46k, but said nothing could be found. Had them look at it again recently and a ride along with a service tech who had a pda checking everything, nothing found nor did the shudder occur.

The car is now around 57k with no extended warranty and I'm nervous. If its a flaw and it does not shorten the life of the tranny then I am fine. But its definitely not normal and non of my previous cars have done this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

no it happens only on any type of grade, yes it usualy occurs between 30-40 mph. it shudders just enough to worry me. i havent look at the rpms when its happened thus far and it stops every time i let off the gas, then press it again.

Sounds like the fluid is worn out; it appears that Honda didn't do a good job during their validation program for this fluid.

Transmission shudder is common on many Fords do to misfire and fluid issues. Do several drain and refills over a short period of time to see if this corrects the problem.

its a torque converter shutter. you could just replace the torque converter to save money but i wouldnt suggest it.

i cant believe that tech with the handheld scanner didnt find it.. ugh.

something tells me the egr port may be suspect. its common on those v6s. taking off the intake manifold isn't too difficult on these. and i'd buy a few cans of injection cleaner (carb cleaner, but o2 save)or just get the pro-honda ones to be on the save side.

the egr port gets rather dirty and can cause issues in light throttle conditions.especially light cruising around 2k rpm range. if its not throwing a cel, it'll get there soon when its stuck completely. save yourself some money and clean out the egr port. on diaphragm side and manifold port.

and if you are attempting to do this, just remember to tighten up the manifold in a cross pattern from center.

good luck.

I have contacted dealership and they agreed to look at it. I had the trans fluid changed at around 45k. As well I have seafoamed the oil, gas, and intake manifold and I cleaned the throttle body. Noticed improvements but no improvement on shudder only to find it occuring more often. Will keep updated on results from dealership.

If it's under warranty, take it to the dealership and let them decide what to do. That way if it's the fluid it will be covered under warranty.

yup sounds like torque converter shutter

you can do several trans services to help it

trans replacement is best

if it did not happen on the test drive the tech would not be able to see it with the scanner on the test drive

There is a TSB 05-017 for 04' tl called "5th Gear Vibration or Drone". I am experiencing this same problem. Looks like an easy fix and not a TRANNY problem thank god. I just hope the dealer gives me one for free.
