Ok, so I need to have the transmission either rebuilt, replaced with new, or salvaged used. I pretty much know the pros and cons here. What I'd like to find out is where is the best place to obtain a new transmission? I found a thread where someone obtained a new (rebuilt) transmission from HRA (???) or something similar, but I cannot find the thread. Any suggestions?

I've always had good luck with going the local rebuild route. If you know of a GOOD local shop, that will probably be the cheapest and most reliable way. A good shop should install updates that will address low line pressure, soft shifts, and lube issues. A bad shop will screw it up worse than it already is.

I would start by asking any local shops what kind of warranty they offer on their work and if they install the typical Transgo shift improvement kits (the updates I mentioned) with their rebuilds and if they replace all electronics on the trans itself. A rebuilt trans with the improvements can outlast a new trans by a significant margin. On the other hand, improperly rebuilt can be a disaster.

After that I would look for a low mileage used unit and swap out the fluid right away with the racing fluid and replace the switches.

Last, I would go with the typical Acura rebuilt units.
