'04 transmission behavior
Hey guys, I have been using this site for reference quite a lot and wanted to say thank you to the people who have spent hours upon hours doing research to make these cars run their best.
I know you're saying "crap another tranny thread". But I've done research and can't find my symptoms anywhere.
So got the car with 71k and it's a 5at 04.
Car was meticulously maintained but sat fora year up until last fall. It's tranny fluid was clean and not burnt. Ffwd to now and it has 99k.
I did pressure switches back at 85k and did a 1x3 change at 97k at the dealer when I got my B3 mm light. Tech said fluid was brown and burnt which surprised me slightly. I was told not to worry because there were no large chunks on the magnet.
Now,Car shifted like a dream for about two weeks and got to its old habits after 1000 miles. These habits are:
Light vibration at a stop intermittently
Hard shifts when cold.
Hesitation when downshifting at highway speed (5-4 downshift)
Intermittently rough up shifts
After engine braking on a decline it holds in 3rd (intermittently)
Hard up shifts when running a/c at any temp ( all the time)
Basically it shifts acceptably 60% of the time, shifts excellent 10% of the time, and crap shifting the rest. I've been up on my maintenance since day 1 and have ignored these symptoms for the most part because they seemed so common from what I've read. I just wanted to confirm my thoughts were correct.
I plan on doing a 1x3 fluid change tomorrow and was considering doing the pressure switches again.
What are your thoughts?

Just did my first 1x3 today along with the pressure switches and mines a dream now. I didn't use the honda fluid but used the red line d4 fluid. I'll do another 1x3 in 2 or 3 weeks

My concern is that when i changed the switches prior to the fluid change, I trashed the pressure switches while running the old/worn fluid. if this is a probable cause, then i have no problem throwing 80 bucks at 2 switches.

If fluid was "brown and burnt" you definitely need more fluid changes, first and foremost. Also change the filter and clean the solenoid screens. All this has been discussed on this forum, so you should be able to find more detail.
The switches would be less of a concern to me, though it wouldn't hurt to change them.
