the 04 has the same problem the 00-03 have.
Get it to the dealer immedialty- they still have the warranty at 50k miles right?
- the gen2 cars had a court case that extended their warranty to 7 years 109k miles, so you know there was/is a serious problem with the trans.
They didnt have it fixed in 03- they needed a VIN number to settle the court case so they picked whatever the VINs were at that day and used it.
No solution has ever been found to the problew, acura knows that, and the savvy customer gets a free warranty transmission replacement- they dont rebuild them at the dealer- acura has a special shop that does all the rebuilding for them

To the dealer before it stops on you while driving down the freeway

The infamous 3-4 shudder is a sign of transmission failure.

Get it to the dealer ASAP.

My 04 TL is in the shop getting a warranty replacement right now because of that problem. I had to go twice because they can never duplicate the problem unless you take one of them with you and show them that it typically only happens under light acelleration. Once they saw it do it for themselves, they said we're getting you a new transmission. mine was still under 50 thousand miles but outside of the 4 year warranty period. If yours is way out of warranty, not sure how they will handle it.

There are at least 4 of us on here with 2004 TL 3-4 shift problems. Read that other thread labeled 04 TL transmission worry (New user to forum).

Definitely take the vehicle to the dealership if you notice ANY transmission problems.

I was on the phone with H&A Transmission yesterday, who is a supplier of remanufactured transmissions to Honda. They told me that they are still seeing quite a few late model 03-05 Accord V6 transmission at their facility for remanufacturing due to failure. It appears that these newer ones may be more reliable, but the problems are far from resolved.

blue- what did the dealer tell you?

and the 6speed has its own problems- like easily slipped into 2nd at speed causing a massive overrev and engine damage of $2800
Something our automatics will never do!- the computer will not allow any overrev conditions

Nice work ! good effort at least- welcome to acurazine- where the search engine in here beats info on the net all the time
we have known about this since it was issued in 2004
Its a recall to install an external oil jet kit and inspect the 2nd gear with a camera- if bad - trans is replaced right then.
We also have on the gen2 cars, a 7year+9 month / 109k miles special extended trans warranty that gives full replacement if the cluches inside fail- a popular occurance- who doesnt like a free trans at 100,000 miles!!! what other car maker does that for you!!

If you just got the car and dont know its history=call acura at 1-800-382-2238 x5 with the VIN number and tell them you are a new owner- ask if any open recalls or warranty in effect- there are a few special ones depending on car year

you have the shifting problem? exactly what are your symptoms??

Believe it or not Mr Ripley= acura has been known to do ~goodwill~ replacements at no charge or you pay install labor only- on the cars with only the 50k warranty (gen3)
They are very aware the problem was not fixed in 03 04 05,----06 and 07 lack data,
and if one of the gen3 people would get on it and take it to court- you too can be enjoying a 7-100 type court ordered coverege like gen2
Acura didnt give us that because they wanted to- it was a class action suit- and they lost

Man! I'm having this problem also....I've got 75K on my car. I just bought the car a month ago. It seems to drive fine, but as you guys mentioned the car shutters on the 3-4 shift at low acceleration.

Sucks! I wonder what my dealer is going to say? Can't afford a huge repair bill right now!

My 04 with 99k on it is having this issue at times. It may only happen once every three times I drive it, but every time it happens I wonder if the tranny is going to die on me. I called acura and they tell me that my VIN# does not fall into the Recall range. I wonder if my dealer would still be willing to work with me if it does require a replacement.

Exclamation Attention!

ALL of you folks experiencing transmission problems need to take your cars to the dealership ASAP!

Acura WILL work with you and is likely to cover MOST of the cost.

The LONGER you delay, the LESS likely they are to assist you. It is in your best interest to not delay and visit the nearest dealership immediately.
