my TL has 162,000 miles on it. every now and then i get a shudder like it is struggling to go into gear between 3-4 gears on upshift. i bought the car used and the trans fluid is dirty and smells burnt but didnt know if i should do a drain and fill or not. i added some conditioner to the trans and it seems to of helped. is this a sign my trans is going bad? also in 5th gear i sometimes hear a grinding noise..also seems to of disipated since conditioner was added. sorry for the rant. thanks!

 

like u read in my thread, change the 3th/4th gear pressure switch and do a drain and fill oil for the tranny oil. it helped mine alot with the fluid was really dirty.

i'll keep u posted for the gear pressure swithc and it will be changed.

 

Is it difficult to do the 3rd & 4th pressure switch changes? Does it require any special tools?

Its not difficult but I just got my uncle to change them since I was lazy to change them out.

The switches are very easy to change and there is a DIY posted on here with pictures. Took me 15 min. Remove driver side wheel and u can change them easy. You will need two wrenches 10mm and 1 don't recall the other but it's around 21 mm. Have fun
