I have an 04 TL with 167,000 miles on it and the transmission has all of a sudden started slipping. Was driving along and it popped out of gear. Ever since it has been acting up. It works fine until I have to stop. When I start again it will be fine then disengage. If I stop and shut off the engine, when I start again it works fine until I have to stop again and it starts all over. Could it be electrical? The tranny fluid has been changed regularly and in fact was changed shortly before it started acting up. Any thoughts? Thanks.

 

my tranny went out at 59k miles, same case as you described.

 

yes tranny problem. same with mines. Had my tranny rebuilt and everything is fine now. Think of it like this, as you are driving your car is shifting fine but as so as you stop it shifts again if your tranny filter inside is built up its not goin to be smooth and thats when it starts slipping, so when you turn your car off it sets everything back in place only to happen again.
