Would a evap canister replacement stop the gas smell?
Hi...my car has a strong odor of gas in the interior cabin of the car....particulalry after its been sitting for a few days. It was suggested by a car enthusiast friend that I replace the evaporations canister. car is a '04 TL with 158k miles. Thanks. Also, I should note the o2 sensor code has appeared and the car has little lags at very low RPMs when I first start it up. Are these related or 2 separate issues?

Most likely two separate issues. The gas smell is from the EVAP system, or a rusted out fuel line, or from a rusted out fuel tank (up on top of the tank).

Thanks for the note. When you say evap system, do you mean the canister, and all ancillary pieces tied to the evap system like hoses etc? any other parts involved I should consider changing?

Yup; this is kind of an and/or situation. That said, I think the evap is a fairly low probability; leaking fuel is more likely.

I forget if it's the canister vent or purge valve, but if one of them fails the canister can't purge the gas fumes back into engine and the entire canister fills with gasoline, then you'll get strong(er) gas smells. But if any of the evap sensors are failing/bad, SHOULD throw a CEL
The 02 CEL is most likely unrelated as well. That will affect your performance, but should have nothing to do with causing a gas smell.
If you find a mechanic with a smoke machine, they can smoke test the fuel system to indicate any leaks. Or alternatively, you can get similar results if you vape. If you're into that sort of thing.....

My 07 has just started producing smell that is more of a burning oil as opposed to the gasoline smell. I took it to the Acura dealer here just outside of Nashville. There was no suggestion on replacing the purge valve. The VSA light and check engine light was on and they did replace the oil pressure switch.... worked fine for about 2 weeks and now the VSA light and check engine light came back on again along with a hesitation in acceleration tonight...The tighten fuel cap light has been intermittent as well....and to top it off, when it goes back to the dealer, they cant get the codes to replicate.

'04 TL strong gas odor inside cabin of car
It started out intermittently but has gotten stronger. The gas odor seems to get VERY strong in the rain. As if the rain is washing off the area it is coming from and allowing the odor to leak out more....that's just a theory...anyone? It was so bad yesterday it gave me a headache and made me a bit light headed. Thanks

You had a thread from the end of 2018 for the same issue so I merged them.
Did you do anything suggested since then?
