Hey guys, Im usually in the 2nd gen CL forums but made way over here b/c my dad has a problem with his 04 TSX. He said that every few miles a strong smell comes into the cabin from the engine. He isnt sure if there is a leak or something. He just hit 100,000 miles. The a/c is always on. Could it possibly be freon leeking or something? Anyone ever hear of this problem or have any ideas? Thanks.

 

Can you be a bit more specific as to what kind of smell?
Exhaust? Burning Plastic? Burning Oil? Moldy?

 

not mold. He said it comes and goes as he drives. Sort of like a coolant smell but not exactly. I havent smelled it so i am not sure. This is just from his description.

 

I've had this happen on my 1993 Mercedes E190 several years ago. It turned out to be a leaking coolant in my case.

 

Some cars circulate engine coolant through a heat exchanger for the cabin climate control ... a leak there would introduce the smell. Just a guess, I don't have any insight into the TSX system.
