My recall won't be until for another week.. i was wondering if it's still ok to drive my car around for couple more days? anyone have any suggestions?

This was posted in a thread i started about the same issue a month ago:
Just print this out and hand it to your Acura Service.
That worked out so well for me.

Ok - just got back in and they said it was the O ring. Car is warm now so I wont know til tomorrow or tonight( if i go out) if it is really fixed. But I don't hear anything at all now. Also the dealer did it for free and replaced the fluid - Tischer Acura in Laurel
I usually drive out to Criswell ( great dealership in Annapolis) but might try Tischer a second time. I really liked their service and no BS or beating around the bush.

What the name of the shop? I need some shocks installed but too cold to be doing anytihng myself now and don't feel like waiting unless the price is too steep.

Thumbs up you mofo's !!!!

damn man.....i had the same prob....exactly the same shit....i thought the problem was from the belt....i called the dealer and told him i think there is a whine from my belt....and he said "does ur whip make a louder sound when u turn ur steering lock to lock?"....i was like yeah....he is like "$550" to replace the ps pump....

i procrastinated....which saved me the money....i researched and found this thread and damn.....i went back and told them "during the recall u forgot to put the o-ring in there....DO IT !!!!"

so, it was free and damn no more whine....!!!!

i just wanted to thank you guys.....seriously man (or "men" on the contrary)....you saved me $550....i treated my car to "UR SC crank pulley" and "innovative mounts"

Thanks....i luv AZINE

Peace

Im havig the same problem but im gettin smoke coming out from my engine now and im pretty sure its from the power steering hose thats leaking. Could it also be the o-ring? Ive been having this problem for a while. Could the hose have damaged the ps pump too?

Could i get this fixed at the dealership without warranty because its a ps recall? I really dont wanna pay 200 to get it fixed since I see this is a common problem.

Changing this tomorrow. I had to go to pep boys and get different sized wrenches, the 10mm wrench I had wasnt long enough to get into that tight space.

I called Acura Client Services to verify my car didnt' have the recall done. My car has the same exact problem today all the sudden and it freaked me out! Luckily my local mechanic was nearby and checked out the car. PS hose is leaking causing this nasty smell in the cabin. The mechanic did his best to patch it up, but it's still obviously leaking.

A quick search on this forum and I found the same symptoms. Even better, its part of a recall. http://www.automotive.com/2004/12/ac...lls/index.html

Call ACS first at 1-800-382-2238 and give them your VIN#. After that they can tell you if your car has already had it's recall done. They refered me to a local dealer and I have an appointment with them tomorrow.

Im having this problem as well. I had my ps recall done in 08.
I called the dealership and and told the service guy that i wanted them to check it out. He tried to sell me a new ps pump. ummmmmmmmm NO lol
Im fairly certain its the o-ring. Im gonna take it in Saturday am and they are gonna look at it for me for me (free)

Heres my question tho - Im not getting the noise all the time, im only getting it in the am when the car is cold. As soon as the car warms up the noise goes away.
If i needed a new ps pump then id be getting the noise all the time correct? Not just when the car is cold?

I had the same problem as you. Recall done in late '08, and only started making a noise recently when the temp dropped, and went away as soon as it warmed up. My dealership took a look and replaced the o-ring with the newer orange one, and no problems since. It took them about 15 min to change it out, and was FREE!!
Hope I don't need a new pump anytime soon, but my friend at the dealership has a TL and has gone through 3 pumps and a power steering rack.

So the dealer replaced the power steering hose (with a metal one) and a pump it says on the invoice. Also they did the wiper motor as well since they said the car needed it anyways. it was done more or less, but customer service wise and keeping the customer happy, they could not. anyways, seems like the issue is fixed.

Thanks so much for posting this. It has saved me at least $400 to repair it at the local mechanic.

In the past week or so, my girlfriend has been driving my car to school. Last weekend and tonight I was furious, I thought that she messed up my car or something and have this same problem. I checked the power steering fluid and it has bubbles. Everytime I steered whether the car was in motion or parked, it made noise between power steering and the engine near the belts. Is this still about the O-ring? I'm hoping it is. I'm not sure if this car has had the recall done as I did get it at the 38k mark and it is now 91k. Already scheduled an appointment for Saturday, hopefully it gets fixed even if I'm not under warranty and that it is under the P/S recall. Any help is appreciated!

Mine made a whining noise. I called Acura to fixed that problem. They said they are going to fix the hose, o ring, and wipers. So let's see if the noise stop. My car made a whining noise 24/7 right when I start it up. I keep it updated.

Ohh man, this saved me some serious money! I got the whine a couple of months ago and was getting ready to change my power steering pump when I found this. There is also a pretty thorough walkthrough of the process here that I used. It helps to see someone else do it.
Thanks!

OMG! I just want to say thanks to the people who started this thread, I had this same problem and Dealer tried to do me Dirty... -

When I first got the noise I went to the deal and got the power steering fluild flushed... for $89 bucks... (Dealer never mentioned Re-call) and I explained to him the whole problem. He said he didn't want me to waste money so why don't I let him keep it over night.. "Yeah right" because I knew if I did that they would run some BullSh^* on me and say the power steering pump needs to change... So I said no just change the fluid... (Why do these guys always act like your friend right before they rob you blind)

next day still had the problem.. Decided to search, what I should have did from the start, did a Google search, OMG! the horror stories that popped up... People getting hosed by the dealers changing the whole pump... for $2000

Lucky for me I came here first, saw there was a re-call went to check that out with a near by dealer, and if not the problem was prepared to just by the O-ring and do it myself..

Went to near by Dealer and they said, right away, oh it's the O-ring it's covered under the re-call, it was suppose to be changed.... we will fix it for you free of charge... Sweet, went to make appointment and it was going to be too many days before they could see me, so I went to the Dealer I always go to which is were I bought the car, pretty far away.

But they said they could see me today... So I said, "I'm on my way"

Ok got to the far away dealer and right away, Head guy there tries to tell me it's not covered in the re-call and my re-call was already done by some other place before I bought the car and it was done. So the O-ring is not covered.

I said, "what?" Look I just did a power steering fluid change here after I explained what was happening and your guys didn't bother to tell me about no re-call... Now I have check it online and everyone says it's the O-ring and it's covered in the Re-call some places did the re-call but didn't change the O-ring, but it should have been done in the re-call...

He says,"No" it's not covered, I then say, "why is it that the other dealership was ready to take me in and do it all for free and they said it is covered, I guess I should just take it there because they seem to know what they are doing, I only came here because I get all my work done here...

Now I'm really heated.. but I don't say a word, I give him a look like you gotta be kidding me... he says what that dealer does and what they do is two different worlds, I say, "what?" it's an Acura dealer?

I guess I'll just take it there then, he starts looking at the diagram on the screen which he prints out.. I'm still pissed... he goes on and on about how it's not covered then tells the assistant to scroll down so he can see the whole thing... and again tells me the O-ring is at the end of the hose....

Then who knows what he sees on the diagram, but he then tells me he will do it, but only because I'm all ready here, but it's not covered and tells the other guy bring me the O-ring so I can see if it was done, blah, blah.. blah...

Anyway got it done and noise is done... be Careful if they try to tell you anything else like pump needs changing... and it is suppose to be covered under the re-call...
