As many know 04 tl, has acommon problem with seat leather. So after 2 years and 40,000 km i complain to the dealer, to change my seat covers because the indentations are really showing. They agree to chnage only the drivers seat. Fine. I come to pick up the car and THE LEATHER IS DIFFERENT!!!! It does not match the rest of the car, it is more grey than black, not shiny and much harder then the original!!!! Also it has more wrinkles on the side than the old one had. So I complain to the manager, and she will only fix the wrinkles, but not change the cover to match the car, or change the passanger's side to make a set!!!! I say I will complin to Honda Canada, she says go ahead. Uggghhh.

What do I do to fix that????? I would rather have the old one back on then this new ugly crap.

I don't have any pictures yet. It was already dark when I tried to pick it up. I refused to take the car like this. I would gladly take my old "butt prints" seat over this mismatched garbage. Will call my service advisor in the morning se what he says. Maybe he can talk some sense into the manager. So far, I filled out the online survey. Will call the serv rep in the morning(we wasn't there when I was picking up my car), and if I have to (and probably will) Acura Customer relations at 1888 9ACURA9.

 

i don't think he changed them.. he probably added crap to your current seats to make them not wrinkled..

 

my 05 with 23800 miles on it have a really nasty prints on the driver and passenger seats, i want to get it replace as well.

 

Then beware of what happened to me. Maybe you will have a better dealer. Mine is in Mississauga.

I've been trying to decide which dealership to service my car at.. Erin Mills Acura or Acura 2000 in brampton (where I bought the car).

 

i had the same problem when acrua woudnt give me an loaner car for takin my car to service i called acura headquarters complained an they gave me an mdx as a loaner car they get to the bottom of it quick, you should try it.

 

Yes. They have been fine untill now. My car however didn't really require any repairs. My father's TL has been back 4 times to fix a missing seam seal under rear seat. I will be going 5th time to replace seat belts here the salt comes out.

 

I just went back to the dealer. I checked, and it does not look like they put new cover over the old. I tried to stick my finger under the leather and couldn't feel anything but foam. Sorry no pictures my camera gave out. I have no idea how they will try to fix the wrinkles on the sides. Ugh... I am so p%^^#$ off. And then the conversation with the manager who was so ignorant.

Me: The seat doesn't match and is wrinkled.
Her: I agree it is wrinkled, will fixed that. Does not match beacuse it is new, your car is 2 years old.
Me: But the cars in the show room have leather that matches mine.
Her: Yes, but it is worn out as people get in and out.
Me: So change the cover to old one, I would rather have butt prints then mismatched seats.
Her: So I guess the old seat wasn't so bad after all.
Me: It was better then this. So change the passanger seat as well.
Her: No, I will not do this. Passanger seat is fine.
Me: it is also showing some butt prints, at least the seats will match, (back rests will not though)
Her: My decision is final, I will only fix the wrinkles.
Me: OK, I will complain to Honda.
Her: Go ahead.

1) Wrinkles are common on a seat cover replacement. Wear will get rid of them after you sit on it for a while.

2) Use some Leather Conditioner and your cover will become BLACK instead of Gray. Seats over time turn black with conditioners. A new cover will be this way. Mine were on my 06 when they replaced two parts of my front seats and they look fine now after conditioner.

They got black, it looks like matt black, or black with dust on it. Different texture of leather, and not as soft as the other seat. Maybe conditioner will get it to look darker, but it will take a miracle to have this leather look and feel like an original. It looks like some aftermarket piece of crap, not an original acura part. This new leather fits like an aftermarket seat cover you woulg get from local automotive store. Promise to take pictures as soon as I get it back.

 

I got tired of the hassle with the '04 seats so I went to the dealer and insisted they change the seat bottom and backs with '05 leather. This was not an easy job...the cushions and seat heater are different where the extra seam is located. I had to pay for the cushions and heater...the dealer paid for labor and the leather. It ended up costing me nearly $300 but was worth every penny. NO BUTTPRINTS....PROBLEM SOLVED once and forever. Also....the new style looks better to boot.

 

I would like to able able to insist like that. Did you have to twist some arms? I can't even get them to change the passanger's seat. Anyway, they had the car for a full day, and didn't finish, aparently it will be ready tomorrow.

 

Mr Badguy, I ahve the same issue with the butt prints in my 04 tl.
my dealership kept refusing to replace them.
They said, only if it rips/tears, then they will cover it under warranty.
Which is BS cause the warranty is over in less than a year.
wish you luck in this battle. seems like every dealership visit is a battle/war.

Well, they fixed the drivers seat so that there is no wrinkles. I put some conditioner on the leather to make it darker and it helped a lot. However there is still a different feel to this new seat, the leather quality is simply different. They say it will wear out and fell the same as old. BS. I will give them a month or two, and before my 3 year warranty runs out (September) I will complain again.

There is no wear on my steering wheel. No cracking as well. Perhaps it is the low milage (42000) that still keeps it in good condition.

 

Wow. Never buy from that dealership again. That is the worst customer service I've seen/heard of coming from Acura.

 

Hey MrBadGuy, if you don't mind abit of driving, I would really like to recommend Acura East over in Ajax when it comes down to customer service. They are one of the nicest dealership I've had the chance to take my TL in for service. Alot of time I walked away free of charge for services while the dealership @ Downtown Acura will charge me minimum $100 just to look at my car ~.~; (I live downtown and would rather spend the 25 minutes driving to Acura East than settling for something closer =)

Ajax is really far from my homeland of Mississauga, so for little things it is a no go.

 

You can try acura 2000 in brampton. I've taken it for my first service yesterday and I must say that so far they have been good to me.

I bought a used car and my service came up and I was looking at 400$. I told them I just bout it and my first service shouldn't be so much. He cut the price in less than half the amount and took care of it.

Can't complain really..

I agree. I've tried 4 dealers or more in the GTA and Acura East is the best so far. The only drawback to them is that its almost impossible to get a loaner. It has to be a major service for them to give you one, otherwise they just drive you somewhere with their shuttle.

 

I get a loaner no problem here in MN. I brought mine in and next week i bring it back to change both seat covers and the HFL.
