I scored the bottom because I wanted a little more friction to secure the nut a bit more surely. I did not have a lock washer that size, so I just scored the bottom. OEM does not require a lock washer, but I just wanted one for added peace of mind.
By the way, I suggest drilling the 2 holes for those metal screws ONLY. I would not drill for the 3 white plastic tips that use the yellow caps. And I would not drill for the 2 green/blue plugs as shown below. Those green/blue plugs do not have much margin for error because of the way they are designed. And the yellow caps are super duper hard to get on, especially in the angle you have to access it. So, Leave them off! Between the 2 metal screws and THIS double sides tape, your spoiler will be on like concrete. And if you have to pull it back off, you can just replace the tape because they give you a lot in that roll. So, put 2 pieces of tape in the "Divot" where the Green/blue plugs located AND where the white male/yellow female caps are located on the ends and the 1 in the middle. I used a heavy duty velcro in the center divot only but I could have used 2 layers of that double-sided tape. All other areas only need 1 layer of tape because they are not "recessed". The velcro I used is the same velcro I used to fix my headliner! And it has been holding for at least a year and that suffers heat exposure.
but I think they changed the packaging. It used to be Yellow like this: http://dylbs6e8mhm2w.cloudfront.net/productimages/500x500/105831.JPG
But you don't have to use velcro. That double-sided tape is probably more "stable" than velcro. But I have so much of the tape installed that it makes the velcro irrelevant. So, you know, its just touch and go, try this and that. Just take your time to drill those 2 holes.
To help to find an accurate location for the holes, I put a tiny piece of yellow tacky putty on the end of the metal screws and when it touched my trunk lid, it stuck to the trunk lid. And I lifted the spoiler off, and then I drill a mark on the lid where the indention was made on the tacky putty. You might have another method! But this tacky putty sticks easily. It comes in Yellow or white or blue. LINK

by the way, You dont really have to put anything at all in the "divot area" that I showed in the pictures, for those locations. Because if you put tape on the adjacent flat areas, then you are more than covered for a stable installation. So, really, you can choose how much tape you want to install and where you want to place it. Just know that if you put tape down in the divot area, then you'll need 2 layers because it is recessed. So, lots of room to improvise! Just make sure you install the screws and nuts for the 2. Everything else can be taped 1 way or another. And if you make a mistake, pull it off and redo the tape. No sweat! There is probably enough for 3 spoilers in that roll I proved a link to at harbor freight.

is that just the lip spoiler? I got the same one on my 06, it came with the a spec lip kit package. there are NO holes drilled into my trunk, it was on there really good and just started to slightly come detached on the edge, so I removed it cleaned off the 3m tape and reapplied 3m adhesive and she's good to go..
That is probably correct. You could probably just use 100% double sided tape and be just fine.. But you know, the 2 screws and nuts do add some security. (If someone is worried about it being ripped off)..
I drilled those 2 holes because they were a very good way to secure it very very firmly.. And plus I was thinking "OEM".. But obviously I didn't go "totally OEM" because I did not drill 5 of the 7 holes. I only kept 2. But as you said, I think the spoiler will be fine with "all tape" and no screws. As long as you use the tape I mentioned above or some industrial strength tape. (hard to find)
This spoiler from Acura only gets 4 ORANGE tabs (shown above) that is used for taped areas. So, this spoiler relies more on fasteners than it does tape. But I greatly expanded the taped area and reduced the fasteners. You can tape all those white circled areas I show in a picture above.

The Type-S lip spoiler is different than the ASPEC lip spoiler.
The Type-S is more bold looking and slightly bigger. It looks more sporty and somewhat aggressive.
It's kind of hard to tell the difference for the untrained eye but I can definitely point out a Type-S lip spoiler when I see it.
I used to have a eBay spoiler and now have a Type-S spoiler. I've seen the base model lip spoiler in person and although it does look better than a naked trunk, the Type-S lip spoiler is definitely better looking and the reason why I got one.
This thread was very informative Chad. Good write up. Prior to this I don't think anyone else has ever posted a instructional thread on how to securely mount a Type-S lip.
Travis was nice enough to install mine for me using 3m tape. It's been a little over a year and both edges are raised. I would recommend for others to go your route and secure it by drilling holes. Double sided tape will always wear out on both edges and start the raise over time.
Can I ask you where you ordered your spoiler from? How much was it shipped?
Ya, I thought he was talking about another spoiler because he said it came with a package deal.
And right, to my surprise I have never seen a write up on these OEM spoilers. The only thing that looks "peculiar" are all the fasteners and its not completely flat on bottom.. So, I didn't know what to expect when I ordered it. So, I wrote it up. But good to know, the spoiler is flat in all the right places(for tape). The rest is probably for weight and mass reduction.
But I bought 3m tape once at PepBoys, and that stuff was terrible. Its not permanent, not even for 5 minutes, let alone a year or more. But the stuff I provided a link to above, at Harbor Freight, it is "industrial strength". It is so much better than the 3m tape that I have used, and cheaper! Doesn't even compare. I think 3m shold be embarrassed to put their name on such a bunch of junk tape.
And my old spoiler definitely was not about to come off at the ends or the edges and it was installed for 2 years. Did you see the stuck on residue? And my blister on my thumb from rubbing? haha But still, I agree, I do think it is a good idea to use those 2 metal screw holes even though my spoiler was not about to come off and this new tape seems to be just as good as the stuff on my old ebay spoiler. But if you use 3m tape, I can easily see out it would come off, especially if it is the 3m tape from PepBoys. Maybe 3m has different quality tapes? And btw, some people Claim their tape is permanent, but they lie too.
at first i was confused... like..why did he put some cheap ebay lip spoiler on his typeS when it should already have dat gorgeous lip spoiler stock? and then i realized...its not a typeS. please tell me its at least a 6spd.
Here is a better shot Steve. Now you can see the badge reeealll goood.. but this is before the new typeS spoiler. Dont ya love it.. haha I think my car is sexier than your TypeS Steve.

well that would be stupid to put a Z06 emblem on a narrow body vette. That would be stupid looking. but these TL's.. very close.. And you if don't like it then click the page.. move on... Do you think I care? Why do you think I posted the pics? What year is his vette anyway?

why so hostile by telling him to leave? just because someone has a differing opinion doesnt mean it deserves any less respect than a comment such as "your spoiler looks good!"
Hey Chad shut it! haha. Kidding man, don't bash me.. Like your car man! Clean and nice and that spoiler looks really good! I kind of wish I could of gone for the Type S spoiler on my base. We'll see what happens for the summer time..
this thread motivated me to put a 'S' badge on my moms base corolla....now i can rip around town hanging with the other cooler corolla crowd and no longer regret that my mom drives around in a base.
wheeeeeeee! i love it.... S stands for SUPER POWER!!! my corolla S ...wooooot...it got da pickup now.... loving the sound of that updated 4banger now that I got the 'S' decal on!!!!

A few of things for you to consider, Chad:
1. Your car looks good-it's a very clean ride.
2. No, I don't think your car is sexier than mine.
3. My name is Steven, not Steve
4. You can do anything you want to your car-it's your car. But my thought is that people who put a Type S badge on their Base TL are lying. You lose respect on this forum when doing that. At the end of the day, it's still your car. You have to be happy with it. It doesn't matter what I think or anyone on this forum thinks of your car.
5. I have no problem with badging. I'm not one to de-badge. But when you put a badge on the car that is incorrect, that's where I have an issue.
