Hahaha, it's funny cuz he bumped into a curb... and now his thread's being bumped... hahaha

On a more serious note, I'm still surprised you didn't go with the rental. Did you even think about how many parking lot donuts you could've done?

This thread reminds me of Ferris Bueller. Everyone was so worried about Ferris when they thought he was sick and needed an operation. Remember, they passed around a coffee can for donations.....

take matters into your own hands.

you all know how insurance and shops like to keep you out of the loop, so...
I took a visit to the shop.
I got a prelim copy of the estimated damage.

as of right now, the estimated cost is at $7,915.87.
I cracked the transmission
bent the subframe.
they are replacing the transmission and the subframe.

They are ordering all OEM parts.
I even scored the OEM type-s Bumper!

^^^ play it well and you might be able to score the lip kit as well

my ex girls brothers 02 accord got rear ended....the adjuster estimated a damage of $1800 something....i took it to a local shop and got his rear bumper repainted and put it back on....looked like new....

he ended up getting the exhaust + lip kit + subwoofer installed with that check

@Champ: I didnt know how to phrase that without being called out....very well written....we all know this can happen....get an estimate from a real expensive shop, get the frame work and other stuff performed by a little cheaper shop and do the rest yourself and pocket the $$$

@Justn: yes....talk the the shop....for example if they charge you $350 for the front bumper and $100 labor....you tell them you can buy it for $300 and install it urself....$200 pocketed....

well am not saying do anything illegal...ur just getting a bite out of the cake

^that will cost me money.

the car is already torn down.
to put it back together and have it towed to a different shop would COST ME MONEY.

there is no handling of money. the car gets fixed. the shop gets paid.
in Texas, i have the right to take it to a shop of my choice, butt in my panic, I signed papers saying that the shop can tear it down and I approved it.

the only thing I can do is ask them to do the conversion. which they agreed.
I have the prelim. estimate papers in my hand.

I like the way Justin did it better. That way, God forbid the shop doesn't do any repairs correctly, you can just tell them to fix it and not worry about money exchanging hands with any additional repairs. That would just be between the insurance company and repair shop.

they wont release the car.

I signed the papers in my panic.
its too much hasslehoff to do it the way you are suggesting, swoosh.
I understand i have the right to choose which shop, but the car is already torn down. to tow it or rent a uhaul will cost me money.
money that I'm not willing to spend to get it to a shop of my choice.

Thanks Aman.
this way its less hasslehoff for me.

^^^ yeah whatever works for you bro....

Personally I hate when a shop pushes my around...so i like to have that leverage...

anyway even if you stay with the same shop, you can provide OEM parts....my ex's brother rear ended someone (8-9 months after getting rear ended)....and his car looked just like yours.....

got a quote from maaco (yeah flame me later)....i spoke to maaco and told em, your charging 3000 for parts and 3000 for labor....I got my hook up on labor (2800) and i told em will buy all the part (2200)....so even thow we went to the same shop, saved 1K (which covered the 500 ded and 500 pocketed)....beside they also painted the car black from silver....that was included in the cost

my point being these shops work with u justn....talk to em....try to work your charm...

I have the prelim. estimates, as I'm checking it over...they've found the lowest prices for the items that need to be replaced. which have already been bought.

in order to move the car, i would have to pay out of pocket to restock the parts and for the labor involved to put the car back together.

this totally negates why I pay insurance.
