SSM A-spec TL

Finally upgraded the TL last month with the A-SPEC package. I recently had the chance to shoot a couple of random pics. FYI the car has a MT A-SPEC suspension installed rather than an AT one to help balance out the rear rake common after installing this type of suspension. The car is now evenly lowered front to back.

White 9LEDs for the license plate and PIAA W2 XTREME WHITE for the reverse lights.

Looks nice, is there any draw back to the MT A Spec on an Auto?

No, none at all. Fits and performs perfectly. The suspension really does make a big difference, it's basically like night and day.

I believe the difference is that the AT suspension has a higher front spring rate than the MT to compensate for the extra weight of an AT transmission (roughly 100 lbs.). The rear suspension components are exactly the same on both AT and MT. Due to the lower spring rate on the MT suspension, the front has become a tad lower than it would have been if I had installed the AT one. Hope this clears things up a bit.

That's great news! I will have to do the same when I get my SSM.

Well, because I pieced the kit together instead of purchasing it with the car or as a complete package. The cost including install ran me about $3,300. The only thing missing on the car is the steering wheel because I'm not really sure I like the look of it.

I purchased the bulbs from http://superbrightleds.com I believe the bulb description on the site is 921-x9 LED Wedge Base Bulbs.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

I replaced the bulbs for the license plate not the taillights. I wouldn't say the bulbs are brighter but, they are much whiter than the stock ones.

Great shots!

Any chance you can take a nice and clear side shot so it's easy to see the fender gap @ the front and the fender gap @ the rear?

I'm thinking about getting the MT kit as well and would love to see how even it looks on an AT.

I highly reccommend them. The light output that the LEDs give is much cleaner than stock bulbs. Sorry for the late reply. I totally forgot about this thread.

It looks great and your pics are pushing me towards ordering the M/T suspension for my A/T TL, but just wanted to get your thoughts on this....

Will that 100lb. difference cause the springs on the M/T A-Spec kit to wear faster?

Have you driven an A-Spec with the proper susupension setup (M/T wtih A-Spec M/T, etc.) I wonder if there would be much diference in front end push because of the lower rate in the M/T version on an A/T car?

Thanks

I doubt that the 100 lbs. will significantly affect anything. Albeit a TL with the proper suspension setup will in theory perform a bit better. Think about it in this context though, you would probably throw the car's weight distribution off more by just being overweight.

I haven't had the chance to take another A-Spec TL out for a spin, but I can tell you that my car handles like a dream now and can't imagine that a properly setup TL will perform noticeably better.

hey illist..

how many fingers in the gap now front and rear? I've got 19's on and right now I'm seeing a 3 finger gap in the back and almost 4 in front. Still can't decide on springs, a-spec, or coilovers. geezus!

Thanks!

About a 2 finger gap (1"1/2") both front and rear.

So if we have 19" wheels we would have only about a 1/2 gap?

If you size your wheels and tires correctly, you should have the same amount of gap/clearence that I do.

You just have to ask the right people. Hopefully they'll be available to everyone soon.

I never bothered to get an alignnment done because the car still tracks straight and has no signs of uneven tire wear.

Hey illist, thanks for the response back. Decided to get a Tein and Koni Neuspeed setup instead. Either way, both our TL's will be looking and handling much nicer!

hey you said your car handles like a dream now?? can you describe it more. i really want to consider getting the aspec suspension, but just worried that it might not feel like a luxury car anymore. less body roll correct? but 3,000?? for the whole setup?? what are the exact parts?? and how much was the install?

There are many reviews of the aspec suspension on the boards. Doing a search might be of help. To sum it all up though - there is less of everything... body roll, understeer, ride height, ect. The car does rides a bit firmer than stock but, never gets to the point of being unbearable. It's similar in ride to a BMW - sporty yet still luxurious.

I believe dealers on Ebay are selling the entire kit for roughly $4k-5k though you can piece it together like I did for a little cheaper. Hope this helps.

da_illist_one: That was your TL I saw at Walmart a couple weeks ago. I pointed out the acurazine sticker to my wife as we walked by your car. Great job, looks good. Where'd you get the decal from? I've been asking around, but couldn't find any white ones to match my SSM.

The sticker is actually silver. I don't think they made any in white.
