rockstar143's '04 NBP progress thread (part deux continues after 6 year hiatus)
I found a thread that had easiest way to remove, but in a nutshell.
Remove all door handles with philips screwdriver, the covers just pop off.
Remove visors...carefully take off the bracket cover (cracked one) unscrew and twist to pull down and unplug
remove the thing that holds the visor on the inner side by grabbing/twisting counter cw.
remove rear lights by popping off covers, then 2 visible philips screws
remove front bluetooth/light area by prying off the entire assembly from the front which will reveal all the plugs to unplug and the 4-8MM bolts that hold the entire thing up
remove A and C pillars by pulling out the airbag push thingy
B pillar I was able to just undo and pull out of the way (seatbelt is through it), it was good to hold the liner up during un/re install...also, start off and leave it with the seatbelt on the lowest setting...makes it easier.
pull down the front, it's held by 4 yellow pop clips and the rear has 2 traditional trim fasteners, around the sunroof is held by industrial velcro...just pull down.
To get it out, put driver seat ALL the way back down...front kinda folds into a tent shape and you can maneuver it out of the car. Helps to have another person, but I'm impatient.
Good luck, Dennis.

Thanks man. Apparently mine has been sagging for a while but I recently noticed it. I figured it would be around $100 to get it redone. I'll tackle it once I'm done with the s2k interior

That's it! Was $80 for me...
You're welcome...mine has been sagging for a bit...I've been putting shirt pins up to hold it but it would flap on the highway with windows down
he assured me that the new glue he used will never fall again.

Car looks great, I'll have to keep an eye on the headliner and make sure it doesn't start sagging.

Jeremy, do the guys at your dealership salivate every time you drive in?

I'm sure they do.

Meko, thank you, my friend!
Going to tackle a couple other things this weekend...going to swap the front rotors to some that Tyler let me keep during his coilover purchase last year. I'm tired of the warped BM fronts and although I'm used to the vibration when braking, I feel like it'll be nice to no longer have to deal with it. Little things like that make you subconsciously annoyed when you drive the car. If that doesn't work...the blank Brembo will go back on. I'll likely put the blanks back on the back and go back to ceramic pad. You can't beat the price for BM and I won't bash it...but I will admit that you get what you pay for.

Sounds good Gatr...
Marcel...really? I found it odd that you didn't respond. I don't have any fkng service in my current place...only texts will come/go, although I did see a VM this morning which I haven't listened to yet. Thanks, brother...keep me posted!
I actually went home for something just now and saw that the rotors Tyler let me keep are rusty...my brembo blanks are actually in great condition though!
Meh...I'm gonna sleep on it, I have a feeling I'll miss the look of the cross drilled and realistically the whirring noise doesn't bother me too much and I don't know the fronts are warped unless I slam on the brakes hard...which is rare in addition to not driving the car much. I aligned my S2000 headlights this morning...I guess I'll focus on getting those differential collars installed on the S2000 instead!

Earlier you mentioned you'd never do vinyl again.. why? I'm thinking about doing a cf vinyl on the interior trim pieces after seeing that tlx. Wonder about your concerns before I spend the money.
I don't do vinyl myself. I like to do all my own work but I feel vinyl wrapping takes a bit of skill that I've just never even attempted before. So I'll pay a shop that specializes in vinyl wraps and tinting.

Vinyl is great! It was a great solution when I had it...I am just getting old and leaning toward more permanent and/or simple solutions.

Aside from tackling this one headlight thing on my TL...I have done everything that I had put on the back burner!
headliner replaced
ac working
new driver seatbelt retraction thingamajiggamaninja
this weekend I tackeled:
swapped to my centric rotors that cltothetl let me keep from his coilover deal and rear swapped back to my oem rotors...newly replaced cmax pads for the front (thanks autozone...holy hell, they didn't believe that my first iteration of them didn't have the stamp on the pad, had to plead with the manager for a good 20 minutes for her to give in). Overall, the rotors/pads I had were nice looking a great deal, but they warped and it was getting worse and worse and annoying the crap out of me. I also will say that they definitely don't have the bite that these do with the warmed up ceramic pads.
Also took the time to grease everything up...shims/pins/slides...ran a chaser thread retapper over all my studs too...then I adjusted my amps for a bit and then I did something I'd been wanting to for a long time...wetsanded and polished my vertical edge of my trunk. When I had the CSL put on and the holes of the oem spoiler removed, the orange peel was a little more obvious than OEM. It would annoy me every time I was pulling out of the garage...still there, but a lot less obvious. I was scared to burn through the clear so I didn't go too HAM on it.
Anyway...hope you guys all had a great weekend too.
J.
Can't really see much other than the fact that the slots are facing forward like most of the ones I've ever seen, and only 1 row of drilled holes. Also have black hubs/edges... whirring noise is gone too...in addition to stopping very hard now and no more rusty orange brake dust.

Meko, when I had the CSL spoiler put on, we filled the holes from the old spoiler and had the entire thing repainted...I wetsanded/buffed the top of the trunk, but not the vertical surface so the orange peel was obvious. Looked good, but it was obvious it had been repainted when the sun hit it. I knocked it down with 2000 on a block, then 3000 the other way, then compound/polish the shine back.

Damn J, speaking of stepping your game up...you do that any more, you're going to fall off the top of the ladder!
And I'm with you on the Brakemotive stuff...the shudder/vibrations when braking on the highway is annoying as hell. I know the whole set up was only like $200 total front/rear, and I got like 30K on them already, so I can't complain a whole lot given all that, but next time I'll be going with something else.
How is the dust with those ceramic pads? I really don't want to have the dust like the OEM Brembos had...

Thanh, forgot to say, thank you and about the photog pictures
Kurt, you too, man...thanks for the kind words.
Well, the Cmax from autozone are fantastic, I had them before so I knew what to expect...and they are lifetime warranty, including wear so every 30K miles I just take them back in the box and they hand me new ones. Dusting is probably about 20% of the brembo, no lie...and once warmed up, like with all ceramics...they stop VERY well since you're still applying pressure with 4 pistons!
These front rotors are Centrics that Eric including in the deal for Tyler's coilover purchase. Since expensive to ship and he doesn't have brembo, he let me keep them and they sat in my attic rusting out this whole time. So, having cleaned them up a little and hit them with some high temp clear on the hubs...they look great and are definitely not warped from what I gather...bed them in and they seem to bite extremely well when paired with the cmax...
Brakemotive:
2 drilled rows and vanes going clockwise and silver hubs
DSC_0941 by swimex37, on Flickr
Centric Ctek (based on my search for part number I found on the rotor)

I must not brake as hard as often as you guys. Had the Brakemotive rotors for over 2 years now and no vibrations of any kind, even when I do have to brake hard, which I had to the other day.

Will, I'm not sure, man...I don't tend to brake hard, I downshift a lot...but over time I did notice that I'd get annoyed at stopping because any kind of real pressure and I'd feel it...plus the fkng whirring sound was driving me nuts.
