RE-tint complete

Had my windows re-tinted last week and just took a few pics. I went from having 5% back window and 50% all side windows to 35% all around. IL law changed in Nov '09 so that now 35% all the way around is legal, including on the driver's immediate sides, which previously could not be tinted at any level, not even 50%. Hence the reason I went for big contrast (50/5) on my first setup, trying to fool those tricky coppers with no better reason to pull someone over. But now this is legal, and I couldn't be happier with how much better it looks. Also, the quality of the tint seems much better (Llumar vs Sungard (or was it Solarguard)) and also the workmanship from going to a high-end (and pricier) place this time was totally worth it too compared to what my money got me last time. Anyway, I couldn't be happier, and kinda feel like my car is new again. BTW there were no issues removing the tint off the rear window. I was concerned about damaging the defrosters and/or radio antenna. And yes, I still listen to regular radio, our sports radio in Chicago is real damn good, even when most of our teams aren't. Happy Easter, everyone.

And not really showcasing tint, but a nice frontal...

And still enjoying the results from last week's painting of rear calipers/rotors.

Kro, that looks great!...congrats. Hey, don't apologize for listening to regular radio! I've been an on-air disc jockey for 33 years at the Classic Rock Station in Kansas City. Nothing wrong with terrestrial radio! And by the way, I'm a HUGE Blackhawks fan.

35% is the way to go. Of course I would like it darker, but it's legal

I'd say there's a chance NY will do the same. I think skin cancer awareness had something to do with it. Not sure about that tho.

Hey, thanks Steven. You're always a positive, upbeat guy on here. Makes sense that you're a DJ or something like that. Are you familiar with 670 The Score? That's my station and the reason I love radio. And I know others here (Chicagoland) are with me on that. Free radio FTW! Haha

just got mine done two weeks ago. 15% all back windows and 35% front two.. Got a quick question though. Is anyone having any problems on the front windows with tint? I have one scratch on each window closest to the door handle, it happened right after i rolled down the window for the first time and its on both front windows and sounds like there is something rubbing the tint. Im kind of pissed off and dont want to have it redone if its gonna do it again. Any thoughts? sorry to hijack...lol

they can do that!? I don't think that's right! I've gotten tickets for window tint but the ticket states tinted windows. One ticket should be suffice no?

Man I can't believe tint is illegal anywhere! I've lived in Florida all my life and Tennessee now for 5 years so I guess I'm used to having tint, I had mine originally done 35% in the front and 20% in the rears. Now I have 18% all around and my entire windshield done 35%

I have the tan leather. I sort of wish I had the two tone black and gray but when I bought my car I didn't even know that existed. But yeah to answer your question......tan.

I have the Camel interior and when I had mine first done, it seemed as if they weren't even tinted. Kro's 35% looks a lot darker than mine.

i think the building and the parking lot behind my car might make them look a little darker in these pics. also tho i think Llumar brand just has a beautiful charcoal-ish hue to it. unlike the bronze-ish shit my last brand had.

^^ Looks pretty solid but you definitely didn't need to have it cut around the brake light in the back. Even when I had limo on the back you could see the brake light thru it just fine. And I hope you just recently debadged and haven't had a chance to clean up the residue yet?

not sure if it's a big deal to you but if you want them to redo the back window without that part cut out, tell them right away and they will probably do it cheaper now than later. just from a make-the-customer-happy perspective. even if you told them to do it that way. if you didnt tell them to do it that way, then i would for sure go back.

im freaking out. I looked at side and it was llumar smooth glanced at the back quickly in high sunlight they have a really good rep. I figured they tinted over and just saw that I really dont want it like this. Will call them tmrw. I was planning on going back for a 50% on front sometime. Hope they change it.

Shades of gray is offering to splice in a piece to fill in the brake light. They say it will be clean and will look complete. I'm gonna take it in and prob 50% windshield.

Any opinion on wether the brake light splice in will look clean??

I am in IL as well and made the move to 35% all around. It is about time they allowed tint out here. My F150 has been rolling probable cause for years. If you are in IL the place to go for good quality tint that lasts is Riggs Bros. They are in Naperville and Downers Grove... Good prices, impeccable work, and their tint quality is superb. I am all for a deal but hate purple tint and bubbles after a few years. I have now had 11 vehicles done their and would NEVER go anywhere else. After all, you do get what you pay for...
