RCAdams KBP Progress Thread
What's up guys, my name is Ronnie. I recently purchased my first financed car on 11/14/12, an auto 2008 KBP TL Type-S with 71,xxx for $21,000. This is the first forum I've ever joined so forgive me for any faux pas I may make, but I've been creeping the threads to get some ideas for modding my car.
So a build up on my vehicle/modding past and why I got the Acura...
*I'm long winded so bear with me*
No pics but my first car my dad bought me was an extended cab MT 87 Toyota pickup with a turbo charged 22R (stock). Modifications on this were
-3 inch body lift
-2 inch blocks in the back for a more aggressive stance
-Bushwhacker fender flares
-Mickey Thompson wheels and 33x12.50 Baja Claws
-Custom Red paint
-5% tint all the way around
This truck was totalled due to a deer
So I bought a 1997 Honda Civic EX with the insurance money
I putted around in this, finishing high school and doing small mods...
I joined the NC National Guard as a 68W and shipped to basic and AIT after graduating HS. When I got back I used my bonus over the summer modding the car while I awaited to go to college. Some of these included
-B&M short shifter
-2 10" JL audio W3's with the HO Box
-5% tint in the rear, 35% in front (legal limit in NC)
-18c1 swap
-99-00 SI front end conversion
-CAI, Cat-back, and headers
(Don't flame me on the ricer Enkei's, it's all I could afford in HS. Got them off a friend lol)
So I had this car running after the swap for a total of about 2 months and started college at UNC Greensboro, only to go to the parking lot on campus where I parked it to find it had been stolen (and we had no comprehensive insurance so no money for it, it was never found).
So now about a TL. My uncle owns a body shop in Hamptonville, NC called Perfection Paint & Body (where I did all of my modding). Look him up on Facebook for a few cool pics. Well my cousin's mom bought a salvage 2005 WDP TL (a tree fell on it in a storm) and he repaired it. I have seen another thread where someone bought a salvage TL and rebuilt it, so, here's another. Once I saw it, I fell in love with the body style.
After clunking around in my grandma's car for a year, I decided to take a break from my biology course and deploy with my unit to Kuwait and Afghanistan and save some money to get a car. Here's a toy I sold while over there to afford the car. Figured you guys would like a pic
So upon returning...
These are the rims that came with it. 20" Petrol Fusions. Not my taste
But let the modding begin.
The first thing I did was repair a few dents and scratches it had when I bought it...
Next I got 35% tint all the way around. Its the carbon infused film.
Now I know you all say to drop it before putting new wheels on, but these "rims" were god awful and rubbed as is when turning so I opted to get a set of 18" XXR's in Black Chromium. 18x8.75 all around so I can rotate them with a +35 offset. I bought Akata wheel spacers from Ebay. 15mm in the front, 25mm in the back to give a more aggressive stance. I put 235x40x18 tires on them.
I also painted the calipers high temp red and put the brembo stickers on, clearing over them a time or two.
My uncle grinding the studs down on the front so the wheels sit flush.
I also debadged the rear and ordered some plate covers. This is how the car sits as of now.
Any feedback is welcome! Next will be to lower it a bit (possibly just the A-Spec suspension bc I want a good ride, hence the 240 tire and an A-Spec body kit). Saving up!
A few bonus pics

Welcome Ronnie!
Nice work so far. Definitely lower your Type S. It will make all of the work you've done look better.
Also, in the lower right hand corner of each post, the middle icon is a Multi-Quote button. It allows you to respond to more than one person in a single reply.
Be sure to try it out!

Thanks all for the good comments! While waiting to get it lowered I thought I would do a cheap mod and do something with the grill. I'm not sure what would look best though. Wrap the outer grill with 3M CF? Color match the outer grill and black the inner part? Any thoughts on what might look best on a KBP.

Nice progress! I really do not recommend the aspec suspension though. You pay a lot for almost no drop. Go for Tein coilovers, you will not be dissapointed. They ride really comfortable and you can adjust the ride height to your needs.

This is my uncle's bodyshop where I do anything to my car. He's got about every tool you could think of, it's great!
Oh yea. I would love to see other members cars. You got it!
I'm saving up!
I have a little something coming that should be done by next week

Oh yea, I know I'm quite lucky. It's the main reason I'm into modding cars. It's just rough on the wallet
Great to meet you in person! Good news, I talked to one of the guys from my unit and drill is the 9th/10th. Looks like I'll be meeting up with you guys and heading down to Charlotte.

Another mod I just got done yesterday. I can't really take a pic of it, but I went to a local tint/sound place (Dedona) and put some DYNAMAT sound insulation in the back to get rid of the annoying rattle. Great use of 65 bucks IMO.

That silver TL is ugly, whos is it anyway? Just kidding Daniel !
I'm the person you guys are meeting up with in the morning before heading out to the Charlotte meet this weekend.
Bring that KBP TL on down. Name is Bee by the way, go chat with us in the Charlotte regions thread sometimes.
