Ptrotary's (slow) Progress Thread
Hey guys, my name is Steven and I am the new owner of a beautiful 2008 NBP Acura TL Type-S! It used to be Quanaman's old car, you can view his thread here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=816424&page=15
I will not be doing too much to the car, but when I do I will try and post it here for you guys to admire

Thanks, Q is an awesome guy. I really enjoyed meeting and talking to him. And thanks for the compliment, we love cars here at home, and the TL is going to compliment my driveway very nicely if you ask me

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone
I don't have any major plans for the car, Q had it setup pretty perfectly as is. I need to have the wheels refinished, and maybe do the headlights and fogs. Down the line some exhaust mods because its too quite for my liking lol
But basically I'm just going to enjoy the car! Now that I have a reliable DD I can finally get some work done to my RX-7!

So apparently everyone wants to see the OTHER cars...
So here you guys go!! (excuse the crappy pictures, I am by no means a good photographer)
Anyways, enjoy!
The FD has been my daily for the last 2 years, without a doubt the funnest car I have ever driven!

Had a good weekend, got some small things out of the way that were bugging me
First, the rear spoiler had some tape hanging out and one of the sides was not secure. I cleaned it up and retaped it down with double sided tape

Next I removed the GMU sticker from the rear window, looks so much better now haha

One of these weekends I will be repainting the drivers side A pillar. I dont know what happend to it but it seems like some sort of acid was dropped there

Here is an idea of what I do on Saturdays for my company:

I also had a chance to start stripping the RX-7 down
Not much, spent about an hour getting some major things out of the way

After:

Also removed the steering wheel, getting it refinished along with the shift knob
(its a lot worse than it looks in the picture lol)

These are all just baby steps on a very long project that I have planned for the car

Haha, you guys, take it easy
No updates as I have not done much to the car... Just been driving and enjoying it
I did however take the yellow tint off of the fog lights (not my style)

IMG_20140821_151937 by ptrotary4life, on Flickr
I also broke two of the four bolts that hold down the engine air box cover, and warped the other two...
Apparently the quality of these bolts SUCK!!
IMG_20140821_153754 by ptrotary4life, on Flickr
One of these days I'll be doing the cabin filter (scared to see what condition its in)
I will also be taking the car to be aligned and have the wheels balanced. I have a NASTY pull to the right when I am driving (shifting) and at around 65-70 the steering wheel vibrates like crazy... Hope the alignment is just off and its not a problem with the wheels...

Those bolts, you have to use a screwdriver, they have the hex head but after a few MD winters...
I don't like the yellow overlay either, so great job on that!
I'd be surprised if Quan didn't do the cabin filter, ask him. Vibration won't be alignment, get the wheels re-balanced, doubt there's an issue with them. Pull will be alignment obviously.

Steven, thats what cars are made for aren't they? To enjoy!
Yea, those bolts are very weak, I just replaced all 4 with new shiny ones
And I will definitely ask him before I do anything, I know he was very thorough with the car. No point in going through the trouble if I can just ask him lol
I got my alignment done btw, the pull is gone and no more vibration!!
Got the tires rotated while I was at it. My friend who works at firestone and did the job for me said he couldn't adjust camber because of the ride height. Anymore adjustment and it would start rubbing... Oh well, as long as it pulls straight I'm happy
I am also thinking about throwing some new wheels on the car... As much as I love the Aspecs, there is just way too much curb rash on them
I dont know if its worth the money to have them refinished/painted... Any suggestions?

If I'm not mistaken, they are the 18 x 8.5"? Those are highly sought after...sell em!
And I'd guess that your vibration is gone because he rotated the problem wheel to the back...normally an alignment doesn't fix that. Ask me how I know

I guess I need to buy a mount for it, correct? I'll check around and see if anyone wants to trade for the one I have.
I have been putting a lot of money into the rx7 lately, that's the reason why I haven't done anything with the TL (for now)

And why yes... My hands are soft, thank you for noticing

Get the plate holder that allows you to flip it down and under the bumper, that way if you get pulled over or know you're going somewhere where you'll have a problem, you can pop it up on the fly.

+1 on balancing....check the tires for a bubble or a cup
I had a bubble in the tire and it used to vibrate like crazy from 70-80mph...thats the only speed range it would vibrate around...no wheel vibrations around any other speed....
when I replaced my tires and got the new set balanced, it was all perfect !!!
just an FYI, if steering only vibrates under braking, rotors are warped
