So I'm out driving to meet some friends and I start to smell burning rubber and hear a strange sound. So I pull over right away and get out and see this...

I was lucky that the majority of the tire was still intact and the rim never hit the ground. I had removed my spare tire and replaced it with an air compressor but again I was lucky that my buddies IS 350 spare has the same bolt pattern as mine so I was able to drive home. Its parked now and a new tire is on the way.

right around 4500 miles... less than 6 months. my friend who came to help me out has alot of experience with stretching tires and he said he has never seen anything like this before
ive been around alot of stretch tires too, its just one of those freak accidents. but 235 on 10inch is a pushing it
Stretched tires at its best. And why you would remove your spare tire I dont know. They are there for a reason lol Ive said it before and i'll say it again, stretching tires is about as unsafe as it gets as far as doing exactly what your not supposed to do to wheels/tires. Glad to see everything worked out alright and the car didnt lose control or anything crazy.

I had 235/35 on a 10" for years... driving through NYC every single day... never an issue... you just have to keep their pressure right... it's not even a mild stretch... 235s are 9.25 inches wide...
The OP issue was tire pressure in my opinion.

I have a 225/40 on a 9" wheel, no problems. I live in NYC with some of the worse streets you can find and I've been fine. Just keep the right tire pressure as some others have mentioned. And IMO, your tire choice could've been an issue as well. I wouldn't really be confident stretching a Nexen tire.
problem has been stated, but ill confirm it since ive been running a 235/35 on a ten (not a big stretch) for years as well...this is what happens when you do not have enough air in your tire and it debeads..
Stretched tire or not but I really do think this was caused by really low tire pressure like less than 15psi. I had the same issue and my tires partially came off the wheel and this happened on my oem wheels running 235.
