Funny...I have both a TL and an Odyssey myself.
You're on the right track. You might want to check out www.exceldetail.com or go over to the Wash & Wax section...he is a forum sponsor and probably offers deals. You'll need a Porter Cable or UDM D/A polisher, a range of pads (orange, white, grey at least), several levels of polish (Optimum Polish and Optimum PoliSeal for instance), a bundle of microfiber towels, etc. Plan on spending around $250 - $300 for an initial investment if you get a good selection of pads and polishes to cover all your bases.
If you have deeper scratches, you'll probably just make them a little better. Light scratches can be removed, but you'll need a heavier compound. When you do heavier correction, you'll then need to follow it up with a lighter polish and pad combo afterwards.
It takes quite a bit of practice too to get the hang of it. With experience, it can take a good 8 hours of just polishing to bring a car's finish back to life.
