Matty J's ASM TL Type S Progress Thread

I picked my TL two weeks ago and I absolutely love it! Its exactly what I have wanted for awhile. I have some plans for it, but the majority of the progress will be slow since a few items are quite expensive.

Sorry for the crappy iPhone pictures. My camera game is whack, and I dont have any friends that shoot. Ill upgrade one of these days.

The day I picked it up. The service manager detailed it, and you could tell lol. Not a biggy to me, since detailing is one of my hobbies.

Had it for a week and wanted to give the exterior some love. My buddy helped me out with his porter cable skills. This was right before it was going in the garage for a buff and polish.

And then I woke up early one morning, and the light was just right to make the TL look soooo sexy. Crappy picture, but it was a nice sight

And I finally got my first addition for the TL. Bought the trunk mat from Quanaman. Its a nice piece.

At this point, I have some OEM tranny fluid to do a simple 1x3.

And I also had yellow fog overlays coming from BlueBatman.

My plan for mods in the future:
- 07-08 Type S A-spec Kit. Ill have to get it painted since ASM is discontinued in the front and rear.
- Coilovers...most likely Tein SAs.
- Wheels...something like TE-37s!

Thats it for now. Its late, and I've had toooo many Blue Lights.

Thanks everyone!

Tints are possible, but anything darker than like 35% is illegal in my area and I dont feel like wasting $200 just to rip them off if I ever got a ticket.

Oh, and I bought a roof spoiler off Quanaman

Can anyone tell me the approximate length of a roof spoiler? I am going to try wrapping it in 3m Silver Ni-doc and want to order the right amount.

Roof Spoiler on the way thanks to Quanaman! Its currently wrapped in black vinyl. Im going to take that off and try wrapping it in Silver 3m Di-Noc. If that doesnt look good, then I am going to overlay it with real carbon fiber.

I have a question about changing my transmission fluid. I have read almost everything I can find, but I always like a little assurance.

My plan is to buy a case of Redline D4, and slowly work up to a 3 x 3. Ill probably do a 1 x 3 each of my next 3 oil changes. Is there any problem with just using Redline D4. I dont feel like mixing D4 with racing ATF. why you might ask? Because I dont get on the throttle hardly ever.

^you're fine with just d4...BUT, if it were me...i would do 6 qts d4 and 3 qts racing to get the correct viscosity and FM for your car.

do a 1x3 with 2 d4/1 racing....next oil change repeat.....and so on.

oh and as far as the roof spoiler length, its the length of the rear windshield horizontally and i would say about 3.5" wide if that. the edge stops right above your rear brake light if that helps.

Thanks man! So other than the Red line D4, do you get Racing ATF type F or Lightweight racing ATF from Red Line?

My roof spoiler came in, and I am waiting to get the 3m Di-Noc so I can wrap it. I also bought 2 quarts of Red line D4 and 1 quart of Redline Racing Type F.

I also put a little seafoam in my gas tank today.

And I installed yellow fog overlays that I bought from Blue Batman. Installation was super easy, but im annoyed at how he shipped them. He rolled them up so each overlay had 3 big creases in them, and it took way too long to get rid of them.

Other that that, Im happy with how they turned out.

Thanks guys, I like the look of the yellow fogs!

I have been contemplating exhaust upgrades and have read mostly every thread I can find but I was hoping for a little advice. Since I am in NY, I am restricted on what mods I can actually do. I can't delete the cats, and I dont feel like swapping parts out before an inspections and then putting the aftermarket parts back on.

Ive been looking at the XLR8 J pipe (V1 I believe) and Catback. I dont want to delete the third cat. Is this J-pipe and exhaust compatible with my stock 3rd cat?

So throughout the holidays, I've accumulated a bunch of goodies for my TLS!!!! My girlfriend actually surprised me with a bunch of stuff, which I never would have expected.

Here is the list of whats hanging out:

- Roof Spoiler wrapped in silver Di-Noc
- Color matched ASM mud guards
- The additional OEM carbon fiber interior pieces
- Acura synthetic 5W-20 and filter
- Red line tranny fluid
- NGK plugs
- Bosch Icon wiper blades
- Tons of good detailing stuff from Autogeek....and I mean tonssss

and I just bought my tires last night. After much debate, I chose the General Gmax AS-03. The reasons I chose the Generals were a mixture of price, quality, and reviews. I got a slammin' deal and will have saved probably $150ish as compared to buying the Conti DWS. Hopefully they work out!

Oh, and coming up...XLR8 Jpipe and Catback first, followed by the A-spec kit!

Sweet progress so far. You def need tints, it gives the TL or any car that sexy look. You can do 35% front and say 25% or 20% in the back.

Post more pics when you get them! GO ASM!
