Hey guys, I got a new car
Well, it's new to me. It's a 1991 300ZX; 5-speed manual; T-tops; 2+2; Tokico springs; K & N filter; and some other minor stuff.
For those of you who know, I am a HUGE Z fan. My first car was a 13 year-old 280ZX that was purchased for me by my mother for when I turned 16. It was a 1981 and this was in 1994. She sold it less than a year's time because I kept getting tickets. Ever since then, I've been wanting to get back into a Z more than you could possibly understand.
I was this close to buying a 350Z instead of the TL last year (I test drove one and almost drove my test car right off the lot), but family priorities directed my automobile purchase more than my testoterone did, fortunately, and I ended up with the TL. I just couldn't have a 2-seater sports car as my daily driver. Anyway, well these things were the shit when I was in high school (yes, I'm a child of the 1990s -- so what!), so getting one of these now is kind of like a "trip down memory lane" if you will.
Here's what she looked like the day I picked her up (last Thursday):
Here's what she looked like on Sunday, after her first exterior detail with me as her owner:
Now I've got two baby girls (the cars) to go along with my sons (real people).

Gotta love the Fairlady Z. Actually I was real surprised on how mint the condition of the Z is . But anyways, goodluck with the car. When are you planning to boost that thing?

Hey guys, thanks for all the kind comments. I think from now on I'll just post pics of my Z, since the percentage of people who are into it is way higher than that of those who are into my TL mods!!!
Anyway, she cost me $5000 even; I "talked the seller down" from his asking price of $5500. Truth be told, I would have paid $5500 because this thing is about as turn-key as they come. I think the guy sensed my enthusiasm and love for Zs and wanted it to go to me.
These cars require a few semi-major services when they start to accrue age and mileage: the timing belt, the water pump, and the clutch. All of these have been done. The engine of this car is extremely strong and healthy, and the clutch is super-grabby....oh and the interior is to die for. Not a stain, rip, scratch, or tear on anything. I mean, this thing is tits!
As far as mods go, I'll definitely be getting the JDM clear tail lights (the ones that come on the Zs sold in Japan). You can see a picture of those here (scroll down to the bottom). That car is the same color as mine, so the idea is there...but those pics are kind of crappy. I'll also be getting the clear front turn signals and rear side markers seen here.
The A/C needs a recharge, and that's going to cost about $200 or so. There are some rock chips on the hood, which is to be expected of a 16+ year-old car with original paint, but dang, the body is straight as heck! I'll probably only paint the hood, and possibly the front fenders and leave the rest alone. Oh and that black strip in the bumper will be painted body color as well. The 1994 and up models came that way and I think it looks better.
Everything else is pretty much good to go. I'll probably have to get some rims, but that can wait. Regarding rims for the time being, I'm going to have Big O Tires re-balance the tires and take the weights off the outside lip and do an inside balance; I hate seeing the weights!

I've seen that look before. It's not bad IMO, but if you've seen the rims that come on the new Zs, man oh man. I would love to get those on my Z. Of course I would like a 350Z, too...

oh man if you'd do some engine work on the z, what, that thing roars through the first 2 gears like a bat out of hell... and honestly I've seen some old z's whoop the new z (which is why the new z isn't a real z)
Just had to post some nice vids for you
http://youtube.com/watch?v=nfJmdegzAYU
http://youtube.com/watch?v=is59cmu62Vg
ps. The 350z Nismo Edition should've been the way the Z came out in the first place...
& how come the g37 gets the 3.7... where is the 370z...
ps^2 pics of my late beauty may she rest in piece (my tl-s smokes it anyway)
the day I picked her up at the dealership
Grey is easy to detail by hand
I wasn't feeling good, my boy drove, slick roads following a morning shower
(chasis arms were so bent they broke when I bent them back by hand)

Sweet! I am a big Z fan as well. I almost bought a used one in 2002. I had to make a hard decision on whether to get a 94 300ZX Convertible or a 94 BMW 540i.....I went for the BMW. (my dad helped me steer towards the BMW as well) The BMW was great, but I think I kinda regret it now. I thought it was a smart idea; cool V8, BMW prestige and a back seat. Now I realize a manual transmission sleek 2-dr was just what I needed while I was young and single.
The 300ZX is timeless. It's design was so ahead of it's time and it still looks fresh to me, even today 17 yrs. after it was introduced! There are few cars from that can say that. I've never gotten used to or sick of the way it looks. It always turns my head when I see one pass by. A lot of people underestimate or don't appreciate it's appeal. I still feel like buying one just for the hell of it as a commuter like you did. Try to find a Turbo one hiding somewhere. I'm still in love.

Oh man, I absolutely LOVE your new ride (and I'm slightly jealous, haha)!! I was also obsessed with these cars in High School (we're about the same age I think)...I think you've got my interest going in them once again... Nice car man!
