Probably realized its a bad idea

If I won the lotto, an LS4 and an F40 6 speed would definitely find its way into the TL. I even checked the sizing for the LS4 and since its transverse mounted, it should fit no problem. Its actually a fair bit smaller than the J series last I checked... That's what a bunch of Pontiac Fiero guys are doing and there was a boosted LS4 Fiero that ran like a 9 second quarter mile time on 1320 video not too long ago

Type S is down, I think the throw out bearing failed. I'll post some pics soon, it's at the shop right now.

In the meantime, my wife's Kia Optima was totaled a couple of months ago -she's ok, she wasn't in the car, it was parked. After looking at several SUVs, and trying to go for an RDX, just couldn't make our numbers, so we ended up with a Tucson Limited, w/ultimate pkg. I have to admit, I'm impressed. Not a bad little SUV.

Shit man, sucks to hear. Did you not replace it when you did your clutch or do you think premature failure?

Tuscon doesn't look too shabby, hows the 1.6T in that thing?

I replaced it, everything was new. It was premature failure. Confirmed to be the bearing. PP was scored from it too, will find out about clutch and flywheel tomorrow.

I'm surprised by the little 1.6T. There is virtually no lag in sport mode, and even though it's only 175hp, the turbo gives you full torque at 1500 RPMs, IIRC 195lbs, so it feels like a bigger engine and has no problem getting up and going for a 3500lb SUV. It's brand new so we haven't pushed it or anything, but has no problems pulling good through 4-5k RPMs.

Given the amount of today's features offered in the Tucson, our only surprise so far is that it doesn't have memory on the power seats. Seems silly not to include that convenience on a vehicle that has things like heated rear seats, A/C front seats, HIDs that turn w/steering, lane departure warning, parking sensors, rear camera, XM radio, etc. but so far so good, my wife is happy with it.

Honestly, I think this Tucson looks MUCH better than the RDX. I really liked the 1G RDX, but the 2G RDX does nothing for me. Hyundai keeps hitting home runs, car after car these days. I have a feeling your wife will love this thing. Congrats and enjoy!!

Not a bad looking SUV.

Did you guys check out the NX200t?

We too are in the market; never thought to look at this.

Can you snap some shots of the interior?

J the clutch is also a Spec unit. Bad luck overall yes, but good luck that it happened on the way home after the compression test Saturday, so I was able to just turn around and go right back to the shop. The car made it back, so no tow charges. Let me upload some shots of the accident tonight and I'll tell you what happened there. Pretty wild story.

We looked at the NX200t, RDX and QX50 online. Out of the 3, the RDX was the lowest priced as far as we could tell, with a Nav, so we only test drove that one. We then looked at Jeep, VW Tiguan, Ford Edge, Kia and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport vs Tucson Limited. Overall, the RDX felt a little more comfortable of a ride and the Tucson more sporty, similar to the Santa Fe, where the Sante Fe was slightly larger but without many of the features (was not the 2.0T, to stay within the price range). The Tiguan felt small and overpriced. The ford was a disappointment due to its price and the fact that it isn't a luxury brand, so we didn't bother to test drive it either. Never made it to Kia, but we always liked the Tucson's looks over Kia from the getgo, so we went to Hyundai first. Infinity might be a contender when the QX30 comes out, but we couldn't wait any longer.

The Tucson was the best bang for the buck hands down that we could find, as well as one of the best looking. It's loaded and almost $100 less per month vs the RDX. In fact, the msrp was below $35k with options and features that pushed everyone else into the upper 30's, except maybe the Kia, I forget which ones, we looked at many models. My wife leased a Kia Optima before this for 3 years without any problems. We hope the Hyundai follows suit.

Our Tucson has a few extras from the dealer too, like the mud guards and rear bumper protector and a few others.

Looks like photobucket is down for maintenance. I'll post some pics ltr.

Definitely agree on Hyundai hitting home runs with a lot of its newer vehicles. I'm personally in love with the Genesis sedan, who would have thought that Hyundai of all the brands out there would make something that competes better with the Germans than Acura does at this point. The new Sonata is really quite awesome looking as well, and I have a soft spot in my heart for the Optima (which might as well be a Hyundai )

Super nice, man...
You said it was in the 35K price point? Or that was what the RDX was?

He said the Hyundai was well below 35, with options that made all the other cars way more expansive in the 30s. Which I definitely believe - The Genesis for example is crazy loaded at its price-point. Basically everything you get in a 7 series BMW for half the price lol

MSRP on the Tucson was 34k. A Tucson Limited is around 31k, and ~34k w/ultimate pkg ($2,700 add-on).

The RDX we looked at only had the Tech pkg and it was ~37k already. We priced a few others online with Nav and always ended up in the high 30s with whatever pkg or options we needed to have a Nav. If we added everything else the Tucson comes with, it was around 40k or over on some of the other SUVs. These are all ball park general figures from what I recall of our experience last weekend, so don't hold me to it down to the penny. We looked at a lot of models a lot of options and a lot of numbers. You know how it is.

In fairness, I *believe* the Tucson is really more in the market against SUVs like a Tiguan, Sorento and CR-V and all, basically mid 20s to mid 30s price range, and we knew that, along with the reduced resale value over time, but it doesn't look or feel small like the Tiguan did, and we parked it side by side next to a Santa Fe Sport, and you couldn't see the size diff - only with the rear open did we see the bigger cargo space in the Santa Fe. And since the Limited is its top model and it's fully loaded, it has more features than the entry to mid-lvl models of the larger SUVs like the RDX and QX50 that we looked at in order to try and stay within our budget.

We know it doesn't have the pedigree, quality or reliability history of the long standing brands, but shit man, we got a nice little SUV with all the bells and whistles for less than 33k (after discount). It's a lease under warranty, so if it doesn't hold up we're not left holding the bag at the end of this road. Her Optima turned out to be a great experience as our economy sedan, never broke down, had more interior and trunk space than my TL, better leather and an equally nice stereo. The Tucson was almost $100 less per month than a less equipped RDX. It doesn't have the punch of a V6, but the little 1.6L turbo feels more like a stout 2.0L-2.4L inline 4 - it moves fine and is not the slowest in its segment. The only one we didn't even look at was the Mazda CX-5, which according to whatever website i saw the other day, is the market leader in this segment, but I don't know what it is about Mazda these last few years, they just don't resonate with me. The rental we had during this time was a Mazda 3 and we couldn't stand it.

The Koreans keep steppin up their game. Gotta give them props.

I don't want to re-purchase everything all over if I don't have to. The Spec has been great for 2 years and grabs really good, no issues there.

One of the bolts that holds everything together was loose and the threads on the flywheel were gone. What we think happened is the bolt came loose, affecting the tension on some of the springs on the PP, which destroyed the bearing. The bearing grease then got on the clutch, discoloring it on one side.

Spec says they can fix the flywheel, re-line the clutch and replace the bearing. Everything will be shipped to them Monday.

J, my wife's car was parked in our driveway when a drunk driver smashed into it, pushed it 20 feet out of the way and crashed into our house. He then took off. Luckily a neighbor's photo allowed the cops to identify him. That photo isn't pictured here, but here he is below during his getaway. The Kia was totaled.

Wow that is terrible, good thing a good samaritan caught it...otherwise these idiots get away with way too much of this on a yearly basis im sure.

Now rockstar did bring up a very good point about the location of the house....this is something I'll need to add to my mental list of things to check when shopping for a home...whenever I drive by homes on the side of medium to fairly busy streets I always think how I'll probably never get a house like that...way too much noise/traffic/high risk for this crap to happen. Not to mention seeing people trying to back out of their driveway into a very busy medium sized residential street...not fun at all.

Guess this is another reason people like cul de sac homes.....

Def take traffic into account. Our street isn't too bad, it's not a main road but many do use it to get around the Main Street.
